PCTEL, Inc. reports that it has developed a Soft Access point Module for Wi-Fi networks that will permit a Wi-Fi enabled notebook or desktop PC to function as a Wi-Fi access point and router. According to the company, the new Segue SAM technology leverages a standard Ethernet connection to the notebook or PC.
"This breakthrough creates the same type of cost discontinuity that PCTEL pioneered with soft modems," said Chairman and CEO Marty Singer in a prepared statement. "Our traditional strength is exploiting opportunities to eliminate hardware and replace it with software. Our Host Signal Processing (HSP) modem and soft DSL accomplished this for wired access."
