Don't know if anyone else has heard but I thought I'd share this bit of news ...
Attended a Dell Roadmap presentation yesterday and was told that Dell is currently finalizing the release of the Windows Mobile 2003 SE updates for their Axims that weren't shipped with SE. It should be available in about a month. But it won't be free. The rep estimates it to be about $30. (He said it's a Microsoft thing - can't give anything away for free and all that junk.)

Thanks! I've been trying to contact Dell about it with no success. At least it's a reasonable price, not $200 or some other outrageous price.

Did they mention if the upgrade will involve flashing the ROM entirely, or a mere software upgrade that will install overtop of WM 2003? My hunch is that it would be a ROM flash.
I sensed that they would end up offering it. The $30 is minimal for such an upgrade. Like the previous poster, it could be worse . . .

Poop! I knew there was something I forgot to ask! >_< No, I don't know if it's ROM flash thing or something else and he didn't say either. He's suppose to do some checking and get back with me. There's already a ROM upgrade available from Dell now but, just in case, this SE update is also another flash upgrade, I'm holding off. No sense doing it twice, y'know.

Thanks Storm. Funny you should mention the 5/24 ROM update. I'm in the middle of reinstalling all my apps after flashing my Axim. All went well, I just forgot how much stuff there is to be done from rebuilding from scratch!! You're right, I don't know why I'm putting myself through this if I'm going to have to flash it again in the near future. Oh well, keep us posted if you hear anything else. Appreciate the info.

ROM upgrade? Of what benefit is that and how much do they ding you for it? Do you have to reset your system to factory settings and reinstall all apps?

The A02 ROM Upgrade is free, and is availible on Dell's support site. As it stands, you must have ROM A00 to upgrade to A02.
It does reset the unit to the factory settings. As far as the changes, I'm still discovering them, and they are mostly subtle. Most notably, they've added 802.1x security support under the wireless client. Also, I've noticed that it fixed the WM 2003 duplicate notification entries upon soft reset.

Carla -
Actually, I should have clarified this. The A02 ROM upgrade was released for the X3 only. Also, to determine which ROM version you have, tap start - settings. Tap the system tab, and then tap the System Information icon. This will tell you what ROM revision you have.
