I was wondering if it is possible to be alerted of an appointment when the Axim is off.

Perhaps there is a function or a software that can turn on the handheld when the reminder alarm for an appointment goes on.

Yes it is possible. My X3 wakes me up every morning with my list of things to do on my calender
