(oops, sorry but I posted to the wrong forum but I can't figure out how to move it)
I just got my first CF card and I want to put some tunes on it and I am looking for some guidance.
1. What software do you folks use to rip your cd's and make them into mp3's? Hopefully something that is "freeware".
2. I have one mp3 loaded on my X5 and when I played it via Windows Media Player V9, I wanted more volume than the maximum it was at. Is there a software workaround to get more volume or is it a H/W problem?
3. When you have a lot of songs to put on the X5, do you do a 'drag-and-drop' to the CF card or does active-sync look after that?
As you can tell from my questions, I need all the help I can get, so is there a really good faq around that can answer questions like the ones I have above?
Any comments are appreciated, thanks,

I use the simple Windows Media Player (Which is included on Windows 98/XP) to rip cds to mp3. On my X3i I have two volume controls. One at the top of the screen and another at the lower right hand corner when I have my Windows Media Player V.9 open on the X3i. The controls are seperate volume controls. Just play with it and you should get the hang of it.

What he said. Although I use Musicmatch Jukebox to rip my CD's. Not the free version though. The free version is terrible for ripping because it's speed is capped. The pro version is great. The super tagging feature alone is worth the price IMO.

I use a program called CDex, which yes is freeware, to rip mp3's. It features automatic CDDB artist/album/track name lookups so you don't have to find out and type yourself. Good options, incl. filename, bitrate, folder, etc.
For volume, there are TWO volume controls: windows media's and the system's. You'll use both at different times. (for max volume, for example, turn both up the full way, and vice versa.)
For moving MP3's to a CF card, you'll go into "My COmputer" while your axim is connected (in dock, etc). THen go to "mobile device" >> "my pocket PC" >> "CF Card" (or equivalent).
Hope all that helps. any questions, just ask!

Man this forum's great!!! Thanks to Axim x31 and Straight UP for their responses. The volume control at the top is the one I need to adjust and when I did the result was great!!! Thanks.
I will take heed to your other comments over the next few days, thanks for the insight and guidance, very much appreciated...
