Problem with upgrading PPC2002 -> 2003

Hallo, (excuse my English, please)
I have a problem with upgrading my X5 PX250 A04 with PPC2003 to PPC2003.
At first I had A00 version. I upgraded it to A02. Then I made upgrade A02 -> A04. Everything was successfull.

Than I was trying to uprgrade to A05 with R64365 file. I received a message:
The procedure CANNOT proceed due to the following reason:
* You cannot upgrade Microsoft Pocket PC 2002(A04) to Pocket PC 2003(A05)
I was trying to upgrade to PPC2003 from A00 and also from A02 with the same result ..

Do anybody know the solution how upgrade A04 -> A05?

It's somewhat confusing, but with little research, or reading my post, all your questions about Windows Mobile 2003 (Pocket PC 2003) will be answered.

Dell created several updates for Pocket PC 2002. They are A00, A01, A02, A03 and A04.

Dell also created two ROMs for Windows Mobile 2003 (Pocket PC 2003). They are A04 and A05.

When Dell released A04 for Pocket PC, they were greeted with horrible results. They then released the A05 patch(R64365). If you already had the A04 Pocket PC 2003 ROM, you could update to A05.

What Dell soon realized is with the A03 or A04 patch for 2002, you could hack an install of Pocket PC 2003 from that A05 for 2003 update. That is why the A05 for 2003 update and the A03/A04 for 2002 updates have been removed from Dell's webpage.

The CD they are selling doesn't contain an update... It contains an installer that will go from any Pocket PC 2002 operating system (A00, A01, A02, A03 and A04) to A05 Pocket PC 2003.

So if you cannot install your A05 download(R64365), it is because you don't have 2003 already and you need to go buy the 2003 update CD. The R64365 download is meant to bring A04 for 2003 to A05 for 2003. That's all it will do. Go buy the update CD.

BTW, you must make sure your regional settings are correct. If you bought an English Upgrade CD, your Pocket PC must be set to English (United States). On the other hand, if you bought an English UK, yada yada yada...

Hi man.. Excuse me my english . The solution to upgrade PPC 2002 to PPC 2003 is one and it is like a hack. Follow the steps to remove PPC2002 and installl PPC2003 on your Axim X5

1- Download the Image file of PPC2003(A05) R64365 from http://www.cdaschools.org/tech_staff_devel...iles/R64365.EXE

2- Open this file to extract the files contained
3- Format the CF card
4- Go to the folder where you extract the files and copy to root of CF card the .img file
5- Remove Backup Battery and leave removed, dont insert
6- Remove Main Battety and insert again
7-Insert the CF card with the .img file into your Axim X5
8- Make this combination of Keys: Push POWER + SCROLL IN BUTTON + RESET + CONTACTS BUTTON
9- Let from push POWER and RESET BUTTONS but mantain Pushed SCROLL BUTTON and CONTACTS BUTTON for 20s
10- Soon you will see a white screen with information about Rom and Ram. This is the boot of the pocket. It will detect the .IMG file from CF card and will continued erase the ROM and copy the new ROM from CF Card.

hello,
i just tried the rom update via cf card (from ppc2002 english to ppc2002 german), but somehow it didn't work out.
i got following screen answer:

that's it and nothing more happens.
i used a Pretec 128MB CF card .
does anybody have a hint ?

andby the way i'm as well searching for the PPC2003 german.

I'm still having problems getting the "hack" to work. Does any one have any pointers? Is the scroll in button the one on the side or does he really mean the navigator button? When I try it, it just shows the Dell logo screen, but this logo never goes away. Any clue what I'm doing wrong?
