Problem with upgrading PPC2002 -> 2003

:w00t: I just replaced the PPC 2002 (ROM A00) to PPC 2003 (ROM A05) using that semi-hack..........everything went beautifully. Thanks a bunch guys!!

This is great information. Now if I get A05 loaden into my ROM, where do I get PPC 2003 for my Axim 5.0. I take it that the ROM updade is not PPC 2003. Sorry I'm new to PDA's

I was able to get the button combinations after a few tries. The white screen came up and everything looked good. I got to the lines
Init CF Card ok!
Determining Card Type...
Storage Card Found!
Load Image from CF Disk....
!! Please Do Not Turn Off !!
No DOS Partition Found!!

This last line caused me concern. I left the unit on for a long time but it never got past this point. Any ideas?

Ok bullfishy... You need to format your CF card. Use a regular PC to do that. You will need a CF Reader/Writer that connect to your USB PC to be able to format your CF card and copy the .img file to it.. Follow the TEN ORDERS to change the operating sistem of your Axim:

NOTE: It will erase all data that you have into you Axim. It will install PPC2003 as factory brand new. Backups from PPC2002 will be not restored into PPC2003.

1- Download the Image file of PPC2003(A05) R64365-English(this is the english version of PPC 2003) http://www.cdaschools.org/tech_staff_devel...iles/R64365.EXE If you wish in other language you need to find it using a serch engine. I don’t know if this step function with other language. Give a search to find it and download.

2- Open PPC2003 archive to extract the files contained to you HD
3- Take a Compact Flash(I use a 64MB CF, I don’t know if with other amount of memory this process work) and Format it with your PC (FAT).
4- Go to the folder where you extract the files in step 2 and copy to root(not folder) of CF card the ...XXXXX.img file(That is the rom or operating sistem of PPC2003. In my case this file is called P25_NK_H_07170300EN.IMG). The archive is big, between 24 to 28 MB may be more or less but must be big
5- Insert the CF card with the .img file into your Axim X5
6- Remove Backup Battery and leave it removed, don’t insert until you have finish PPC2003 installation.
7- Remove Main Battety and insert it again
8- Make this combination of Keys: Push RESET + PRESS SCROLL BUTTON + CONTACTS BUTTON + POWER
9- Quit your fingers from RESET and POWER BUTTONS but maintain Pressed SCROLL BUTTON and CONTACTS BUTTON for 20s
10- Soon you will see a white screen with information about Rom and Ram. This is the boot of the pocket. It will detect the .IMG file from CF card and will continued erase the ROM and copying the new ROM from CF Card.

Yes, you can upgrade without a storeage card, BUT only by using an official Dell upgrade CD which has an installation program on it.

I bought a storage card....and I've just learned how to transfer my DVDs.....COOL....now I have somewhere to PUT them!!!

To all those having a hard time getting this hack to work: keep trying and reply here if you need help. Here's my one suggestion that i haven't seen anywhere on here:

In the hack downloads, there are TWO files that you can use:

P25_NK_H_071703000EN.IMG and
P25_NK_L_07170300EN.IMG

If one doesn't work, try the other one. I tried the L (low) file first and it didn't work. I almost gave up when i had a thought to try the H (high) file and it worked.

The suggestion of ydb1md is valid.. I you have problem in erase or writing procees on you axim you will try changing the .img.
If you put into you CF the P25_NK_H_071703000EN.IMG file, you will try with the P25_NK_L_07170300EN.IMG. The diference betwen this files is the H(high) and the L(low) letters in the name of the file. After change the file continue with the process that I post.
