Dell Back on the PPC Bandwagon?

Rumor has it that Dell recently signed an agreement with Quanta for a hardware design for the Windows Mobile 6 Axim D150. Quanta has been a hardware manufacturer for Dell's components since 1996.


Wikipedia says that Quanta Computer Inc. "...is the largest manufacturer of notebook computers in the world. Its customers include Dell Computer, Compaq, Gateway Computers, Gericom, Apple Inc, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Sony, Sharp Corporation, Toshiba, Fujitsu, Maxdata and Siemens AG. ...Quanta Computers was announced as the Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) for the $100 laptop project on December 13, 2005, and has taken an order for one million laptops as of February 15, 2007.
It is estimated that Quanta had a 33% worldwide market share of notebook computers in 2005."


The tentative RUMORED release is Sept-Oct '07. Let the wait begin for an update...

Sorry, I didn't make it clear, the link in the former post is to an artile at Dell Ideastorm, that I think people here might want to look at and if you are registered at Ideastorm might want to promote. With all the rumours going around it may be possible to influence Dell in some small way, to maintian some presence in the hand held market. If you love axim you might want to have a say.

I also asked my brother who works for Dell in TN as a distribution center manager about the D150. He asked some R&D managers and they were all "tight lipped" about it in his words.
