New Input Software- TenGO Free

TenGO Free is a revolutionary new alternative input program for the Pocket PC. It is meant to replace the keyboard/recognizer and increase efficiency by predicting what word you are typing and using just 6 buttons for all the letters of the alphabet. A similar input method would be T9 that you use on your phone for texting, although TenGO is much more and much faster than T9 could ever wish to be.

You can download TenGO Free here. They also have a typing benchmark program (free as well) and will start posting high benchmark scores. There’s a wmv video of a Japanese girl typing at 72 WPM on her Axim X51 here. TenGO users are apparently Axim fans. It's a different video than the above YouTube one.

The software is free for non-commercial use. When I first installed it I chose put it on my storage card. It said it had to be installed in main memory but continued installing on the storage card. Requiring a soft reset to finish installation, I had to soft reset, remove the software, soft reset, reinstall to main memory, and soft reset again. Whew! Don't fall into the same trap as I did.

You must register the software before you can use it. After registering, it launches a tutorial. Don’t skip the tutorial, it’s important.

I just purchaed the program and I find it very effective. I have no intention at this time to be writing books with it, but it does allow notes to be written very quickly once you know how it works. You mentioned that you had to register the program first. I have the registration number and was never prompted to use it. I have contacted the company and am awaiting a reply. Regardless, I like the program and for those of you out there that do a lot of writing or instant messaging, give it a look...

I finally was able to download it last night. LOL Well very early this morning. I have had some success with it in that short notes are easily typed in timely manner.

This is almost as fast as using my thumb keyboard for text entry. I was even able to use it to get through 3 helpdesk call setups while cruising the hallways. Definately a keeper!
