SYWARE Releases FoneDB 2.0, Personal Database Software for Windows Mobile
New software makes database creation quick and flexible with
synchronization, calculated fields, and filters
Cambridge, MA (March 29, 2004) - SYWARE, Inc., a leading developer of
intuitive database tools for business and personal productivity, today
announced FoneDB® 2.0, the newest version of the company's database software
for Windows® Mobile-powered Smartphones. First introduced in 2002, FoneDB
allows users to quickly and easily create personal databases. New features
include synchronization of mobile data with desktop or server PCs,
calculated fields that automatically apply mathematical operations, and
filters that efficiently sort and display stored information. Whether
tracking expenses or reviewing sports stats, FoneDB takes personal
productivity to a new level.
"The Smartphone market continues to grow, with more models and lower prices
fueling wider adoption, but wireless technology is still evolving," said Sy
Danberg, President of SYWARE, Inc. "As a result, there is an increasing need
for intelligent local data storage. FoneDB 2.0 is the first personal
database software for Smartphone devices. It addresses this need by
providing a way for virtually anyone to quickly and easily access data
residing directly on a Smartphone."
No Programming Required
Creating FoneDB databases is easy. Forms are designed and maintained on a
desktop computer. No programming is required as forms are built with a set
of common controls: labels, edit boxes, check boxes, drop-down lists, and
buttons. Data can be formatted as text, integer, floating point, currency,
date, or time. Records can be viewed or edited on either a desktop PC or a
Smartphone device.
New in FoneDB 2.0 is the ability to quickly and easily synchronize data
that's been collected from a Smartphone with a desktop PC. In addition,
FoneDB can read data from any ODBC-enabled database, including Microsoft
Access, Oracle, and SQL Server. And ODBC-enabled applications, such as
Crystal Reports and Microsoft Excel, can read and write data in a FoneDB
database.
Calculated fields have also been added to FoneDB 2.0. A great time-saver,
calculated fields allow users to automatically apply mathematical operations
to field values. Operations include addition, subtraction, multiplication,
and division. As an example, a 15% tip can be calculated based on an expense
value.
FoneDB 2.0 now provides filter operations to help users search through
large, cumbersome lists. These filters allow a view to be narrowed to just
those records that meet particular criteria. For example, you can find only
those invoices that are over $500. Or you can find the antique shows that
will be in Boston during the month of April.
No Digital Signing Required
In addition to the intuitive interface, databases developed with FoneDB do
not have to be digitally signed before they can be run on a Smartphone. This
means that the costly and time consuming task of securing a digital
signature is not needed before a FoneDB application can be run.
Pricing & Delivery
FoneDB 2.0 runs on any Microsoft Windows Mobile-based Smartphone and is
available for immediate purchase from the SYWARE online store at
