IDC has released prelimenary figures for European handheld shipments during Q3 2003, showing a continuing rise in the number of smartphones and modest growth for standalone handheld devices. Nokia continued to lead the market, accounting for 44 percent of total shipments, while HP overtook Palm to claim second place with 14 percent share.
