Real-Time Analyzer (RTA) Uncovers Noise in Pocket PC Microphone Input
Source: Handango
The Pocket PC has, for a long time, out-performed Palm devices with its multimedia capabilities. Although its much faster CPU and microphone input creates possibilities for many audio processing applications that cannot be implemented on the Palm platform, very little is known about the microphone input quality of Pocket PC devices.
The HandDee-SA real-time spectrum analyzer from Hong Kong based Display Research Laboratory, is the first software to provide tangible data for this little known interface. The software reveals that many Pocket PC 2002 models exhibit high frequency noise. Ironically, pre-Pocket PC 2002 models seldom have noise problems due to their lower audio sampling rate of 11KHz and corresponding narrower audio bandwidth of just 5KHz.
