Dell Axim ROM Upgrade Now Available

I too have suffered the pains of the ROM upgrade. It seems that some of us cannot sync up after the upgrade, which really takes away the Axims usefulness...

I have tried fron a "clean" Axim, with both Active sync 3.5 and 3.6, neither of which has worked. I wasted no time: I called Dell. The rep suggested AS 3.6 was the culprit since at work I use outlook 2000.

That didn't sit too well, since it HAD been working for two months!!

I am pretty upset, and perhaps there should be a caveat about this problem on the news flash!

Lets all call Dell!!!

Update:

With the help of Dell I was able to re-sync at work. Hopefully I will be able to at home.

We established a clean relationship (had to rename the Axim). Apparently the Active sync need to be open on the desktop before putting the Axim in the cradle to sync the first time.... (?!?!?)

Me too. It worked fine to begin with, but once I turned my Axim off and then on again the ActiveSync had stopped responding. So had Dell's Switcher app. Everytime this happens I have to force ActiveSync to close. Then everything (including synchronisation) works ok....until the next time I turn it off and on. Not good! :wacko:

That's the same problem that I had. I did a hard reset, and it went away.

It appears that when you plan of upgrading to the new ROM, all you need to backup is your files and not the entrie device to avoid any problem after the upgrade.

A hard reset is always a good last resort.

The ActiveSync application on my computer (not the Axim) has a backup/restore utility that backs up the contents of my Axim to my hard drive. The backup file has a .stg extension. Is that somehow different than what is being discussed here?
