Anyone for Footy?
I'd just like to open up this forum and invite all comments, good and bad, regarding running WM6 on your Axim x50v and x51v. I flashed the Football A03 rtm to my x51v a week ago and, so far, have had absolutely no problems at all. ( I know ...its only a week - but i'll soon let you all know if any problems do pop up). One noticeable improvement is that I haven't had to soft-reset at all yet! Compare this to my last OS (WM5 A012) which I had to reset at least a couple of times a day , due to lock-ups. IMHO WM2003 was far more stable than WM5 A012! All programmes that I had for WM5 also work great on WM6 Classic.
By all accounts this should be a great, long-running forum....lets Kick Off!

I won't leave you hanging Bulmer, I haven't installed it because my x51v is still under warranty, I went close! I would really like to try it, but there's not a x51 version that I know of , and if someone has a link to that let me know!
There's lots of conjecture as to the functionality of this ROM and plenty of documented success and failure. It would be really great if peeps would share that.

no probs so far
Thats alright Pedah, I didn't have a warranty to worry about as I bought it 2nd hand off ebay (refurbished). I think you'll be pretty impressed with this rom when you get around to it. I see Mahstahs taken the plunge.....maybe he'll share his experiences on this new thread.
Its coming up to 2 weeks now since I installed this rom and i've only had to soft-reset once, due to a PIE lock-up! I've had one problem occur but have since found out it has nothing to do with the rom and that is a problem with having my email attachments on my sd card. The problem occurs when you have an outlook email link on the today page and sometimes after a soft-reset it puts all the current directory structure into another directory called sd card2 and rewrites the email attachment folder in its original position, thus upsetting every programme that you might have installed on your sd card. Apparently the fix is to NOT have an outlook email link on the Today page....hopefully that will sort that out. By the way, I am trialling out the Spb Pocket Plus programme and have had no problems at all on WM6.I think i'll be buying that one!..... TCPMP with flashbundle ,for viewing Youtube, also works perfectly.Cheers for now.

That card problem is also well documented in WinMo 5, happens with CF as well as SD, the trick is to install all apps to one card that you don't change out, but make sure it is backed up, and use the other card for all of your storage. Have you tried SDHC cards yet? People have been claiming that SDHC will work with WM6 on the axim and I've had conversations that it will not because of hardware, It's my foremost WM6 question at the moment, and maybe the thing that will tip the balance, warranty/SDHC?

I don't have any bads to list for WM6 so far. It's really not much different from WM5 aside from being noticably faster and a bit more refined looking. A12 was a stable release for me, I never once hard reset since loading it in March of '06 and very seldom soft reset despite using it every day.

I haven't personally tried an SDHC card in mine yet Pedah. I seem to remember Wizzstar and a few others, on xda-developers, saying they had one working though.

I finally found what may be an anomaly with this WM6 release. Then again, it may be system specific to my setup so if anyone else here has experienced this I'd be interested in hearing about it. Yesterday I was transferring a 1GB+ file to my SD card (maps for iGuidance) and the PDA disconnected mid transfer. I disabled advanced network functionality and tried again. That time the transfer completed, but a couple hours later I heard the ActiveSync disconnect sound come from the computer room. It had disconnected for some reason. It could be related to power saving settings on the host PC... Has anyone else had connection dropoffs with WM6?

I did the ROM upgrade over 2 months ago to WM6 A03 with no issues after the upgrade. Since then my units (X51Vs) both exhibit an dramatic increase in responsiveness. Both units are stable with no issues to report at this time. Every application that I use have no functional issues with this ROM and all show an increase in speed. An absolutely great upgrade. Was thinking of getting a HP 210 (when every they really become available) but after the last two months I have had to rethink that decision. For me and of course IMHO I see no need to invest in a newer unit when my X51Vs now have the WM6 A03 OS, performance and reliability they exhibit at this time.

Oh well I'm joining the club as I write this, watching the blue line on the SD flash screen. See what happens, fingers crossed.
