How do you chnage home screen defaults

Hi, I was wondering how do you change the home screen items? Currently on mine (under the start button) I have date, owner, no unread messages, no taks, no up coming appointments. I would like to remove the tasks and appointment and on the very bottom of the screen the msn butterfly, home,messenger and envelope icons.

To clarify, the Home screen is the screen when you hit the Home button; the "desktop" is called the today screen. Today screen items can be manipulated via Start-->Settings-->Today-->Items.

I have read that one would go to tart-->Settings-->Today-->Items but what about adding icons like the Excel or Word for Windows, ect..? I have seen some users having those icons on their today screen, how does one go about adding those icons? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Most people do this with a third party application, like SPB Pocket Plus, Mobile Shell, SBSH iLauncher etc
