Slow password access

Hi,
When I power up my Axim X51v the password protector appears as always but what is concerning is that when I enter the digits the response is very slow sometimes with considerable delays in even acknowledging the inputed number (ie. a huge time delay in actually seeing the asterix appear).
Anybody know what the problem is?
