Cannot access network computer!!!

Hi everyone, I just received my Axim x51v this morning and I've been going crazy just to figure out how to access the network computers. I'm able to get into the wireless network, access the internet with ease but can't access my other 2 computers using the same network. Here's the problem:

My 2 computers are using a working group name MSHOME, 1st comp's name is John, 2nd comp's name is Mary.

I tried:

Start --> File Explorer --> Menu --> Open Path --> New Path

Then I put in:

\\MSHOME\John\

Message poped up saying: "Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap Settings"

then I tried:

\\MSHOME\John\E$ --> same message

\\John\E$ --> same message

\\John\ --> same message

I was able to access the Internet the whole time.

What's the catch here? How can I adjust this error? Please help.

Hi dudenyc-

You do not need to include the workgroup name in your network path. The proper format is in your last two examples with \\computername\sharename.

Have you set up a share on your network computers? You can find the sharename on your desktops in computer management. Right click My Computer, choose manage, expand shared folders, choose shares. You might need to adjust permissions on the share to allow your Axim to connect. Disable any firewall software before trying it, after it works enable it again and create an exception for the Axim's IP.

Hello Mahstah, thanks for the response, I gave up on trying to get in my network with the built-in file explorer. I just grasped a copy of Resco File Explorer and it just recognized the network right away No hassle there, so... bye bye built-in proggie
