Do I need a Personal Information Manager (PIM)? Isn’t that what the Pocket PC is designed for? Why do I have to pay for software to do this for me? Buy yourself Pocket Informant and you will see why.
Yes it’s true. Your Pocket PC is designed to handle your tasks, contacts, calendar etc. What it doesn’t do is roll these up in a nice package for you to view. Enter Pocket Informant. If you’re like me, you use your PPC for everything. From TV listings, to work tasks. Pocket Informant gives you everything you need to see, in one clever program.
The calendar view is fantastic. You have many options as to how you want to view your upcoming events and information. Day, month, week views are all available. Pretty standard stuff. One great feature is the filter option. You can filter what you want to view by category. Busy, free, out of office, etc. You can also choose to only bring up birthdays, anniversaries, etc. I love these features.
Task view has some good viewing options also. You can view task with end dates, without end dates, due this week, due all weeks, etc. You can also mark tasks complete in this view.
The notes are great. Allowing you to bold, underline and italicize text, unlike some other PPC programs. You can also do bulleted lists. And my favorite feature, the one touch time stamp. You can link the notes to contacts, tasks or your calendar.
Normal contact view is looks pretty standard. There is a dial mode if you have the hardware.
The search function is wonderful. You can search through your contacts, tasks and calendar for any keyword you type in. Great feature.
Another great feature is after you customize the views you want, you can save it. You can save multiple views also. So you can have a personal view, and a work view. And just swap them according to what you want to see.
The only downside that I’ve noticed of this software is it seems a bit robust. I haven’t noticed any real slowdowns in overall PPC performance, but the software itself does take a second to load, so you know it eats resources.
Pocket Informant has won many PPC awards, and they deserve every one. There are so many more options that you can play around with, you can almost categorize this software as entertainment.
I started this review with a question I asked myself. Do I need a PIM program? After using Pocket Informant I realized that the answer was yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. This is a great piece of software for your Pocket PC. I highly recommend it.
