As some of you might know, major brand wireless keyboard and mouse only have limited range – 6 to 7 ft maximum. Enter Xronox Total Input for the Pocket PC, an alternative that can replace both keyboard and mouse with a range up to 300 ft or more by using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
I’ve been using Total Input for a few weeks now with my Dell Axim connected to my Linksys WCF11 CF Wi-Fi card, and I have thoroughly enjoyed using this application. Imagine, able to prop your legs up on your desk while you enter information via Wi-Fi on your PC, and not worrying about the keyboard falling of your lap. Of course, before I could do that, I had to install the application first.
Installation:
The software requires three components for it to work, the Sever application (PC), Client application (PDA), and the .Net Compact Framework v1.1 for your device for it to work, and installation is through ActiveSync.
Another major component that your PC requires is Microsoft .NET Framework v1.1 for your PC. Make sure that it is already been preinstalled on your PC, if not, you may visit Microsoft’s Windows update website.
Installation is fast and painless as long that you have your system and Wi-Fi properly configured.
After the installation, the PC will reboot for the Total Input Server to initate.
Features:
Connection
Once both the PC and Pocket PC is ready, all you have to do is tap on "Connect", and you're on your way to wireless freedom.
Input
The Extended keyboard that comes with the application comes with keys that you will usually find on a regular keyboard, which includes the Function keys, a Windows Key, and even the arrow keys. When entering information on the soft keyboard, it is instantaneous – the information was on the PC's screen or whatever application you're using right away.

Navigation
With the keyboard hidden, the entire PPC screen becomes your touch pad mouse. Here you maneuver your stylus like a mouse, and you may double tap on the screen to open an object on your desktop, i.e. Start button, shortcuts, or applications.

The mouse function also give you the ability to left of right click by providing you the buttons at the bottom of the screen. The up and down arrow allows you to scroll up or down on a document or spreadsheet - which is a bonus because you can easily run out of real estate when maneuvering the stylus on a small screen.
Wish List:
No wish list at this time since Xronox recently released Total Input Elite Edition, with personal customization (themes), DVD controller, and a feature that allows you to create shortcuts that could help you open your favorite applications faster and easier.
Conclusion:
It is easy to forget that the entire connectivity is via Wi-Fi since we’re all accustomed on infrared remote controls or connections, but Total Input is one of the first software that utilized the capabilities of Wi-Fi, and is one of the first application that was develop with Microsoft’s .Net Compact Framework that became available for the Pocket PC.
Total Input might not be for everyone, but it found a home in the Pocket PC market. If you’re into HTPC (Home Theater Personal Computer) with a projector, multimedia systems, or even a person that gives presentation for a living, this software is for you. Thumbs up with this one …very recommended.
