While we are on the subject I do want to point out that one of the ads does use Avenue A, whatever type of tracker or cookie that is, it's really annoying because I have to reload the page several times before it fully loads. That said, I have another point.
|
Ninja said he'd look into it in the other thread.

Last time I checked, I was able to avert my eyes from an advertisement I didn't want to read. This is due to this really cool software I have installed in my brain called SELF CONTROL you guys should really try it out. It might even help you from saying stupid things in forums like this one.
|
Ah, yes... Self Control. You mean like not throwing 20 ads on one page?

You know, I was thinking today. Which seems rare nowadays for people on earth. I came to the conclusion that nobody forces you to visit this site. If you don't like it because you are a selfish bastard go away, and stop complaining. Quite frankly I'm tired of sharing the planet with people who can't share.
|
No I'm not forced here no more than you are forced to reply to this thread. As a member of ths site (hell I didn't even start the damn thread) I've voiced my concerns. Why do you call me a bastard when I've done nothing do you? I don't block the ads, I do click on them to help out the site so just back off.

If you don't love this site and the community here like the rest of us do, just leave, we seriously wont miss you.
|
Since this thread has started, we've gotten much back. The ad words are less, the ads have gotten smaller and we've all learned something about how ads work. I see nothing wrong with this.

I really don't pay much attention to other ppc sights, they seem less familiar, I really feel like this is my axim-family, and I will put up with anything to keep it that way.

I look at this as my home too. Maybe thats why I don't want to see all the ads all over the place. Unlike many sites Ninja did remove the ads and I'm actually happy now. What I don't like is these attacks by members on another member who is just trying to help make the site better.
I would just assume let this thread die if you guys would.

Jim, you missed my point again.
"why not block all the people using Mozilla"
Blocking the ads is fine. POSTING HOW TO BLOCK THE ADS IS THE PROBLEM. This is what we were talking about.
"I got an email telling me to reply"
I'm going to send you an email telling you to send me $1000.00. Since you're that weak against the awesome suggestive power of email.
Again, you don't like it here, leave. A stated by other members, you won't be missed. I know what Ninja puts into this site, and quit frankly I don't want to sit here while you throw jabs at it.
BTW
I also admin a forum. I know what goes into it. It's more than just a monthly bill. A lot more. If you own and run an active and busy forum, you should know this.

I fail to see how posting about a main stream program has any bearing on this when people posted how they can use Mozilla and not see the ads. So we are going to ban talking about firewalls here at Aximusers?

People emailed me to tell me that they felt the way I do and wanted me to continue. I was willing to walk away if no one cared, but I got 3 emails telling me to continue. You poor attempt at humor doesn't have any bearing on how the users here feel.

Whatever, as I said in my other post. This whole thread has changed how Aximusers handles ads for the better. Frankly I don't really give a hoot about what you think. You can either ban me for talking my mind or deal with it.

Again, you assume something that I did not say. This is not about if Ninja can use Aximusers as his primary income. Its the attitude toward members who make points, good or bad. We break even at the forum I have, and in fact we even have a store to help increase revenue to pay for the hosting, but I would never tell a member that they couldn't talk about a program or he would be banned. We went though a big deal with cookies a few years back at the site with users who were angy that we were using them. We changed the way we did things because of this.
This discussion has moved beyond the amount of ads at Aximusers because as I've said in my last few posts, they have been reduced and I happy with that. But lets just have it out right now since you can't seem o let it drop without flaming me for having an opinion.
1. Can we talk about using these programs at Aximusers?
Symantec Internet Security
McAfee Internet Security
PC-cillin Internet Security
Zone Alarm Pro
2. Can we talk about using these browsers at Aximusers?
Mozilla
Opera
Frankly it seems there is a need to draw a line here. Many people have posted here they are blocking cookies that they don't want, yet I see no one telling them they are costing the site (more than I because I don't block anything and use IE). Without setting a cookie, there is no way for doubleclick or tribalfusion to track the users who click on the ads thus not allowing Aximusers revenue. Its easy to harp on me because I've been the biggest poster in this thread, but lets be honest here. I'm not blocking ads, I actually have bought a case from a ad that I saw here, yet I'm the one who is being told to leave. Others have posted that they are blocking cookies and are using Mozilla so they don't have to see the ad words, yet you say nothing. You say blocking ads is fine, but Ninja says its not. You say talking about it isn't, yet we have people taking about using Mozilla so they don't have to see them.

Is this in another thread? I went through all four pages, and I didn't see anyone in this thread making this claim.
2_hotty used Mozilla and didn't know what everyone was talking about at first, so obviously couldn't have been trying to avoid the unknown.
You (tempejim) said you felt like moving to Mozilla/Firebird to avoid the ads...and in a later post, told me to use Mozilla.
I said I was using Opera, but I never said it was to get away from the ads. I also mentioned that I couldn't see them, until I began to use IE.
EEE5 said he loves the pop-up blocker in Firebird, and that the plug-ins rock.
This is all I have seen about Mozilla in the four pages. Unless I missed something, no one in this thread has said he or she uses Mozilla to block the ads.
This is not intended as an attack, just a clarification.

Nice post Minimage. It seems like Jim is the only one that doesn't understand. I'm fine with that. I have written him off.
Unlike Jim, I mean it now when I say I'm done posting in this thread.

Read Cherub's post. How do you think he knows that there is a tracking cookie?

I never said that because you use Mozilla you should be banned. What I did say was now that the cat is out of the bag, do we have to stop talking about it?

Yes I did and I don't consider talking about avoiding ads a problem. How is a popup blocker OK, but not an ad blocker? Hell, why is talking about it no OK? I block popups like most people because I consider them very annoying, much like other ads. BUT that is my choice, not Aximusers choice about what I do.

I don't consider any post you have made in this thread an attack at anyone. You and RommelS are about the only two who have been level headed about this. The fact is, why can we block some ads and not others?

Understand? What don't I understand. I've laid it all out for you.
1. Ads are fine.
2. Popups are bad.
3. Ad words suck.
4. Talking about blocking ads is fine.
5. Aximusers telling me I can be banned for talking about it sucks.
6. I am fine with what RommelS and Ninja have done to mitigate the look of the ads.
What don't I understand?
BTW, you are doing a great job of moderating this thread....

Ok all the shots had been fired.
Anymore salvo from anyone, and I will close this thread.
Lesson learned - Let's all move on.
