My HP CD-Writer 9300i died on me tonight (*sniffle*). So now I'll be in the market to replace it.

I have been looking at the Sony 52x drive as well as the Plextor 52x drive. But before I make a decision, let me know what you all think is the best drive out all those that are out there right now. I am limited to a smaller budget, but I could probably put in $60-$80. I look forward to reading your suggestions.

Check tigerdirect.com they have sony, plextor and TDK's for $79.99 after rebate.
Me personally, I like the Plextor and the TDK.

Don't even spend that much. Keep an eye on dealsea, http://www.dealsea.com.

They list deals there every week on CD-RW, sometimes as low as $25. I bought a Lite-On 48x for a mad price, something like $30, because I saw it listed there.

For example, http://www.dealsea.com/getnews.php?se=1 lists a Buslink CD-RW from Circuit City for $30 after rebate. Also a Cendyne for $40 after rebate.

The Lite-On has been working GREAT for me, I love it. It rips CDs fast, like nobody's business.

I'd be nervous about the Buslink. Look for Lite-on, they are very good drives for the money!

Well, I decided to go with the Plextor W4824TA 48x24x48x. After reading several reviews on this burner as well as the Sony 52x, and the Lite-on 52x burn, I felt this was the best buy for the dollar spent. The price was $89 - $20 dollar rebate, so it fit comfortably into my budget.

I'm on my third plextor all are working great. Plextor offer refurb units via their website.
