OK whenever I sell my ipaq I'm going to get an Axim. But..I'm not sure which I want to get..mostly because of money. I would definately rather get the Advanced model more, but I have no job or any way to get money right now, and most places don't hire anyone that is 15. So, should I get the Basic model, or wait until I can find a job that hires people at age 15 and get the Advanced model later on?
I'm kind of leaning toward the 'save my money until I have enough' side right now, because its kind of a lot of 'loss for the money' -100mhz -32mb of RAM and -16mb of ROM, and no cradle either.. Do you think thats a good choice or not?
Thanks for any input
Adam
BTW: Anyone want to buy a 3630 ipaq? If so, read the classified section..I haven't listed it on ebay... yet

totally go for the advanced model. you will just kick yourself for not getting it. Plus the cradle is BOMB. the extra RAM is very nice, and if you plan on switching between programs, i think youd need it. Plus the extra rom.. its all stuff you cant upgrade that is nice to have...

Wait until you can save enough for the advanced model.
If you look at buying the cradle later, with shipping and handling, you haven't saved that much by purchasing the 300Mhz version.
When I am on the fence about something, and there is not a HUGE difference in price....I always wait and make sure that I take the option that I KNOW will make me happiest.
Just my 2¢......

Thanks for the reply guys. I guess I will get the Avanced model. And I probably would kick myself, like Starscream said, if I got the lower model and wish I would have gotten the higher one instead. Anyway, thanks again

McDonald's hires at 15. You work a restricted schedule. At least, that was the case when I was a manager here in Michigan. PA might be different.
Don't laugh...I know "flipping burgers" is something a majority of people disdain, but I never had a problem with it, and 3 months after I started I was a crew leader (more money) and 2 months after that I was an assistant manager (salary, benefits, paid vacation, etc). Went from that management job right into another restaurant management job at a "regular" restaurant.
You could always start a business. Not sure what your area is like, but around my area, people get $20 to mow a lawn that takes about 20-30 minutes to mow, with weed whipping and cleanup, edging every other week. 10 houses = 5 hours = $200 x 5 days a week = $1000 a week for only 25 hours worth of work. With summer coming up, it might be worth looking at.
Back on topic, wait for the advanced.

Hi,
I guess there is more than one way to look at this "which one to buy?" question. I did a bit of reading in PocketPC newsgroups before buying my 300 MHz model. You see, having come from a Palm device background, my feeling was that I should buy a device with as much instlled memory as I could afford, since that iis where programs get installed, right? Well, that does not apply in the Axim, since programs can be instsalled in the SD card.
As far as the processor speed goes, well, unless you plan to use the device to watch movies, the extra processor speed does not seem to make much of a difference for normal use. I found in my reading that most owners of the 400 MHz model (at least, most of the ones who were posting) were running their Axims in Power Saver mode (200 MHz) to conserve battery life. I am currently using the XScaleCtrl software to run my Axim at 150 MHz. I see no difference in performance, and I get between double and triple the battery life by running at a slower speed. I figure I could run a 300 MHz model at 150 MHz cheaper than I can run a 400 MHz model at the same speed.
If you plan to watch movies, or compute celestial mechanics, get the 400 MHz model. If you plan to use it as a PDA (well, it IS a PDA!), think about buying the 300 MHz model and using the $100 you save for accessories.
There. Another country heard from.

You won't find me laughing. I don't think the job you have or have had is the measure of what you are, but rather what you put into that job, and what you were able to accomplish. It says volumes about who you are. If your job is picking cigarette butts off the parking lot, make it so that not even one hits the pavement before you grab it. People will notice and good things invariably follow.

actually i disagree. PDA is pretty much an outdated term used for palms, handsprings, etc. The Axim is a POCKET PC. Meaning you can use it for more than just a "digital assistant". I bought the Axim because I planned on using it in lieu of my PC when I am on the go (and cant afford a laptop... b'sides my first laptop will be a powerbook!!!). I bought the axim cause i wanted MORE out of a handheld than just a PDA. I think most people would agree with me on that. If i wanted just a PDA, i would get the Palm Zire (i think thats the cheapo one) or a used palm. Plus i know at age 15... you want to play games, you want to surf the net, you want to listen to music, play videos.. all that stuff... hell you might not even use the organizer part!!!! In conclusion, the axim is for power users. So fork over the extra dough and get the top-o-the line.

Hmm, hey Starscream, I see what you are saying but to get philosophical here for a minute.
I think that PDA's definition is "Personal Digital Assistant" and my AXIM is Personal for me, digital (either of two ways, it is not analog and I can use my digits to make it work), and it is certainly a very dependable assistant.
I haven't noticed the term PDA being down played except by use Pocket PCers.
To me it is like calling an Eclipse a car, which is like calling an AXIM a PDA. However, an Eclipse is a sports car, like the AXIM is a Pocket PC. Both of these are true it depends on your terminology.
Ok enough of that philosophy on to a little more.
Hey AMCMoe, I know what you mean on the jobs, but keep in mind if there is a will to earn $ there is a way. There isn't limit on age for starting an Internet business.
And my first job after cutting grass in the summers was as a shoeshine boy in a barbershop. And I agree totally with Aaron Elzner

Thanks for the replys again I guess the 400mhz model is the one I would get because I DO like to watch video's and play games on it..something I wish I would have thought about when I bought my ipaq..I would have to buy an expansion slot pack and a card too. I listed my iPAQ on pocketpcthoughts.com because no one here in the AXIMUSERS.com site didn't seem like they wanted an ipaq, how strange lol So hopefully I can get it sold and start saving for the Advanced model. I wish I would have been able to sell it when Dell had all the rebates and coupons, the Advanced model was down to $239 with free shipping with all the coupons.
Thanks again,
Adam
