this is just a general PC question ...
ok have several email accounts, each one I can access though the internet ... have been using computers for over 10yrs at home but i have never used outlook to read my email, but I know lots of people that have. is there an advantage to using outlook for your email over just going to say Yahoo.com and doing your email there ? is for security purposes ?
please tell me your opinions on outlook...

Hey Jay ...I've been using Outlook since it came out.
One of the advantages of having an email client in your home PC, is that you have all the space that you need for you email. I mean Yahoo and Hotmail only gives you only 2 MB of storage for free.
I know that ISP gives you about 10 MB for you email storage space, but when you download them to Outlook, you don't have to worry about missing any emails, not like with free email services.
Since you have a Pocket PC, you can sync your email with your device an read it and reply to your emails off line. You can also enter and sync all of you contacts and appointments in Outlook to you device.
I will have to caution you about Outlook blocking attachments (*.exe, *.hlp, etc). It will allow you to download an attachment, but it will block you from accessing it.

Using Outlook to do your personal e-mail gives you the advantage of a single file backup. Outlook uses .pst files, where something like Outlook Express used a whole slew of files in your Identities folder on your system.
Outlook is a bit "heavier" than Outlook Express, as it takes a bit longer to load and a bit longer to process e-mail (in my opinion). Outlook Express also adds a newsreader and seems to treat e-mail much easier. It's more streamlined than Outlook.
Outlook is a nice PIM (personal information manager), though. It's a great porgram for tracking your calendar and your contacts! Other programs don't give you this much flexibility.
The blocking of attachments with Outlook kind of sucks. Outlook Express's newest version blocks attachments like .exes as well, right?

I believe you are also supposed to turn off your preview pane (for email) to prevent virus infection.
The reason I dont use outlook (but probably will since its powerful to use with the axim) is because i never had to worry about getting an email virus. With an online email provider, i can choose which emails to open and which attachments to DL (plus i believe both MS and Yahoo virus scan it for you). But then again, ive never been retarded enough to DL an attachment from someone i didnt know.
But now that it will be of use to me to use it, i will.

Thanks for the info, I set up outlook express last night, got a few of my email address combined, except yahoo Yahoo wants you to pay extra to download your mail to a POP client. <_<
It will take a little getting use to, But I can dig it ! B)
Yes I agree with you Starscream, common sense tell you not to download anything from anyone you don't know, and some times you have to be aware that even mail that comes from people you do know may have viruses... in the end if it look suspicious coming from someone you know scan it for viruses ... because that's how alot of viruses are sent out, someone get a virus and it is sent out from addresses in their address book without them knowing it.
but I noticed that with outlook express my Nortons anti-virus program scans emails before their sent out ...
that's pretty cool !

Hey folks. I don't know how I missed this post but I uploaded a file, to my site, that you can use to fix this "file exclusion" in the newest Outlook. There is also a Regedit for it, but this addin is easier to install and easier to control.
Take a look ( http://www.doubleclicks.info/outlook/Outlook_Addin.zip) and let me know how you like it.
In the zip file I have included the Addin, an installation html file and a graphic. Be warned -- it is slightly larger than 2mb so may take a little while to download.
If Computer Ninja wants to add this to the site here feel free too, but it really isn't AXIM related.
