Another thing I would like to see

Maybe this can already happen but I would like to see it in a software bundle.

Being in a service industry, I really like the portability and sync aspect of the 51v.

I would like to be able to interface through the sync aspect, the business software like QuickBooks Pro where I can create an invoice or service ticket so that when the Tech comes in for the day, I can cradle his 51v and the sync load his calendar with the next days appointment/work order plus pull finished data from the existing day's work order and update the pc.

Maybe I didnt explain it well but if I have 3 techs come to work, grab their PPC, head out the door with gps units and work orders loaded from the sync, they can pull the order up, let the gps get them there, do the work, fill out the work order on the PPC from the customer's home, have them sign the form on the PPC screen in a signature block, come back to the office and cradle to sync the existing work order to close it plus load up the next day's work.

I dont know if this ability is already in place with a certain software, but I know that it is definitely within the x51v's capabilities to handle this. This would make a great software package for the service industry and really boost dell PPC sales to service companies like me.

Anybody have any info on if this exists or know a Dell rep who will give me $5 to develop the idea

Great idea MountainXBGL, I'd give you $5 myself for that idea to get developed. You need to give a presentation to people at TomTom, SPB, WebIS, or another GPS or PIM related company. Seriously, they could make a fortune on the idea. I could use it for my job.

I'm an inspector and I use x51 to fill out Vehicle condition report and then have the cust. sign and print out with BT to a HP 460 CB mobile printer It's
BT & WIFI ready and when I get home I set it in the cradle and log on to the
inspection co,s web site and u/p the information and it retreves any new inspections assigned. I beleve they wrote there own program works great.

See, what I think would be the sweetest way of this happening is for the WM5 software be able for you to control what programs are involved in the auto sync aspect...you get this "service software" then it make provision in the ActiveSync window where you can add this software to what the programs that are automatically executed.

It search the PPC for changes in the form and if completed, transfer the completed form to update the form that is on the PC to close it out in the software.

I spoke with a friend today who is "in the know", with several good connections. He told me that Blue Ridge is supposedly in the process of designing a software package that will do alot of what I am asking for. I have no knowledge of the product or exactly it's abilities. To me, companies like Dell need to broaden their customer base from executives and gadget geeks to make platforms like the x51v a viable business tool for all echelons(sp?) of businesses. The 51 is powerful enough to challenge the laptop for a toe hold into the mobile pc realm.
