OK, I have a question for you guys. I could try it, but would rather see if someone else has done it to good effect yet.
I have several apps I have install using just the CAB file. Copied the CAB to the SD card and then execute it. It always copies the program to the Main Memory and usually Program Files folder.
Obviously I wan to put them on the card and keep from filling up the Main Memory.
If I just move the folder to the card, will it continue to work properly?
I don't know how much of the info is put into the registry of the PPC that controls install locations.
Thanks!

. . . at least I'm not the only one trying to figure out how to do this. . . I have tried to move the folder to the SD card with mixed/no results depending on the app.
The bottom line is that even after changing path in the registry and creating a shortcut in the \Program Files folder the app would not start -
So, I'm also waiting to be enlightened on how to do that. Until then no installs from cab files ):. . .

Heck, I'm glad you guys even have the information on how to install from .cab files. I was wondering how to do that. I had a few apps I wanted to try that were in .cab format.
I hope someone has the enlightenment we need. h34r:

Installing from .cab files is quite simple:
1. In ActiveSync click on options and make sure you check 'Files' - this will create a folder in 'C:\Documents and Settings\%profile%\My Documents' and a shortcut on the desktop.
2. Drag the .cab file to that folder on the desktop.
3. Sync
4. The .cab file will be copied to 'My Documents' in the main memory on the PPC.
5. Click on the .cab file in the 'My Documents' on the PPC and it installs in the 'Program Files' folder automatically.
. . . and this is basically the problem we are discussing: even if you move the .cab file to SD and launch it from there it still install in the main memory ('Program Files').
If you look in the registry, it tells you what the instll folder was (i.e. 'SD Card') and the destination directory - 'Program Files'. I tried changing the path in the registry and PPC to no avail. . .

The path must be included within the .cab file somewhere, then.

No doubt about that. . . When installing software through an install shell, the smarts is in the installer to allow changing the path etc.
One option would be to package the .cab with an installer, create the setup.ini etc. Is it worth the effort?
I was hoping for some simple answer. . .

Yes, I am pretty sure that it is in the ini file, but that could be a big hassle to make...since I don't want to learn anything new today.
I was hoping for something simple too.
I wonder how you get to the install screen where it asks you if you want to install the file in the default destination. Is there a way to drag a CAB into that?
Oh well, I will just keep waiting for you smart folks to figure this one out.
I checked MS and they don't have anything on it...at least that I could find.

RUDY IS DA'MAN or DA'WOMAN (!)
Great app! And it works exactly as advertised. Now I have to start deleting the others out of Main Memory and putting them were I want them.
COOL! :P
