Well I was wondering how to connect to a computer? Does the host machine have to have some special software? If so where do I get it?

The host machine also has to have VNC installed on it, useually as a service to reduce overhead. If you install it always password protect it. OTherwise anyone with VNC can come waltz into the machine.

Actually, you don't even need VNC to get into an open machine that has VNC installed. All you need to do is browse to the HTTP port, typically 5800 or 5900, and you'll get a nice Java applet that gives you full access to the desktop. Not something you want to leave unprotected.
