 I have problems installing CAB zip-files on my Axim. Always I try to do this as I understand it to be described in the manual (I go to Active Sync, browse to the zip.file on my desktop directory, copy it and paste it in the program directory of my Axim) I can see it has the icon for an unknown format and I get the message that this file cannot be recognized (or similar, I deleted it and so I don't know the exact message). First I thought, the program perhaps wasn't ok for the Axim but I had a look and the Axim was listed as comparable device, so I must have done something wrong, but I don't have any clue what!
My second question is: if there are the four processor types listed (mips, sarm, etc) the one that I have in my Axim is missing (X-scale). Does this mean I can't use all these programs ?
I apologise for any mistakes in the above, but as a German, my English isn't perfect.
Thank you for any tip!
Dorothee

After copying the CAB file to your Axim, can you click (or double click) the file to execute the installation?

I have received the same message. It says "there is no application associated with "file name". Run the application first, then open this file from within the application. This is supposed to be THE application file. What's wrong there?

I figured out my problem. I was copying the file in too much detail. On my desktop, I was actually opening the folder that ended in .arm and then copying it to my program directory in my pocket pc. Try copying the folder the next level up into the program directory.
It worked for me when I copied the folder that ends in .arm without opening it first. I'm pretty sure that it contains the files you want, but you need those files to be in that folder.
I hope this makes sense. I'm not exactly an expert on this stuff, but it worked for me.

I would recommend Cab Installer as it allows you to put the 'proggie' where you want it to go...not in the CABs desired folder.
The big deal is that some files you can not install on a SD or CF card, but this allows you to.
Have fun!

Thank you, Drpoulette, exactly this was the message I got. Can perhaps somebody tell me what's the use of the setup.exe file that's always contained in the zip.archive? if I doubleclick it, I also receive a mysterious message.
I'll also try this program cab.Installer, perhaps this will help me further.
Thank you very much for your help!

I think I go mad  !
I tried everything you said: I tried to install the zipped file and the Axim couldn't read it.
I tried to copy the next step zip file (the .arm one) and I hadn't the choice to copy it, but could only add, extract (?) or unpack it.
I tried all of this, but nothing :angry2: worked!
And I tried to install CABInstal but unfortunately this is also one of the files I can't install on my Axim!!!!
AAAAAGGGGHHHHH  . There must be a way to get these files on the Axim! But how ??????
Perhaps I missed any step, but I really don't know how to procede.
Unhappy greetings,
Dorothee

:P Good news for people with the same problem: I solved it (at least for me!) !!! I did a bit of thinking after my last post :angry2: , and then my last try was to look for an unzip program. And this was the solution for my problem!!!
I installed ezyUnZip ( a wonderful little FREEWARE!!!- Program with a very good setup-routine) and voila: everything worked! Now I can copy the whole zipped file on my device (where I want, I copied it to my CF Card) and one doubleclick and the setup routine begins. The only program that didn't work properly was the Rayman game, but perhaps I occasionally installed the wrong one. I'll try again.
I hope this tip works for some of you too,
regards,
Dorothee
