Problems installing programs

Hi

I am having problems installing programs on my compact flash card. I consistently get the error the the cab file is not a valid windows file but I downloaded the files from pocketpc.com so I am sure they are valid.

Does anyone else have a similar problem.? Does the CF card need to be formatted and if so, ho do I do this on the Axim.

How are you actually going about installing the programs onto the CF card? Are you going through the software's install process%cher are you just copying the files onto the CF card?

You probably have one of those applications that doesn't require ActiveSync to install it on your device. You have to copy the cab file to your device first, and install the application from there. Let's just hope that it gives you the option to install it on your external memory.

Here is how I am doing the install:

1. My Axim is connected to my desktop via USB and synced with Active Sync running.

2. I launch the software installer on my desktop.

3. I am asked if I want to install the software in main memory. I respond No and select the Compact Flash card instead.

4. Installation appears successful on my desktop.

4. The installation then starts on the AXIM. On the Axim screen I get a message that "the file \CFCARD\(file name).cab" is not a valid windows cab file" at which point my only choice is to cancel the installation.

I have tried installing the same program in the exact same way but to the internal storage on my Axim rather than to the Compact Flash card. The process works flawlessly when I do this.

Any ideas?

Which CF card do you have?

Have you successfully installed program(s) on that card before?

If this is a brand new card, you might want to format the card. I don't have anything ScanDisk, but I read many posters had problems with ScanDisk products. But many could fix the problems by formatting the card.

I am using a Sandisk 256 meg compact flash card. Most of the SanDisk problems seem to be with the SD cards.

I have formatted it using a CF card reader attached to a computer running Windows 2000.

I have never succeeded in installing a program on this card. I have succeeded in installing the same program on my built-in storage so I know it is not a problem with the program itself.
