When I sync a PPC Excel file to my desktop the desktop Excel will not read the file. I get a "File format invalid" message. Does anyone know how to fix this problem.

I am using Excel 95, Ver 7.0 on my desktop, if that matters. I would not mind upgrading to a newer version but don't want to unless I know it will fix the problem.

My first thought would be that Excel 95 is too old. Even though it is a downscaled version of Excel, the PPC version is still generations ahead of Excel 95.

Let us know if you try a newer version of Excel and that solves the problem.

I had a suggestion from someone on the MS Pocket PC Users Group board. The problem was solved by going into ActiveSync>Tools>Options>File Conversions and setting the Excel to convert to 95 rather than 97. When I did that the sync worked fine and I can open my file on the desktop and the Axim. I just did not know that the option was available in the software.

By the way, I attempted to get Dell Support by phone for over 4 hours (waiting) and by email. All I got was an automated "Read the Knowledge Base articles below" message. When I went to those articles Excel was not even mentioned in the article. Dell, so far has been of no help what so ever. I hope this is not the experience of most Axim owners? :angry: :unsure:

Odd that you would have to select what versions of backwards compatibility it should do, but I'm glad you got it fixed.

I'm glad you got it fixed, also, but I'm sad that you had to endure 4 hours of on-hold with Dell. That sucks. I thought Dell was usually good about support. Maybe the week after Christmas isn't the best time to call and get support? But...you'd think they'd beef up their staff and working hours during this busy time.
