Toshiba Pocket PC: Is This the Laptop-Killer?
Source: Business2
Anyone who has a new, supercharged palmtop PC already knows that it's quickly replacing the laptop as the mobile tool of tomorrow. And those pesky airport security checks only underscore the need for a less cumbersome traveling companion. It was about five years ago when I first saw someone using a Palm (PALM) and a fold-up keyboard to take notes at a conferences. I remember thinking of it as a play for early-adopter bragging rights rather than a lasting trend. But with a little Hercules like this Toshiba e750, I'm starting to understand the appeal of scaling down to a computer that fits in my pocket.

nice system. I wonder if the reviewer knows the Axim comes with both the CF and SD slots and hit the market prior to the E750? Would she have made such a big deal about it?
I like the wi fi and lan integrated.
I am sure by the time i am ready to upgrade, (a year or so), VOIP will be an industry standard. That has some real potential, especially for enterprise solutions.
Hopefully, Dell will come out with an integrated mike/headset.

Actually, whatsyourpointnow, Toshiba released the e740 a while ago. This is just it's big brother. The e740 has the 400mhz processor, built-in WiFi, and both SD and CF slots.
The problem is, it was buggy. At least mine was.(all 4 of them) I loved all the options, there were just some things Toshiba needed to work out. From what I hear, they nailed it with the e750.
I actually returned my e740 today, and picked up an Ipaq. I would have picked up an Axim, but I only had Best Buys extended warranty to deal with, meaning I had to buy it there.
I gotta tell you guys though, the Transreflective screen on this thing is OUTSTANDING. Computer ninja and I were comparing screens when I had my e740. The Toshiba had a slightly better screen. But this thing blows them both away! It's like looking at an LCD.

2_Hotty, the Toshiba uses an ATI graphics chip set.

I know. So did the e740. I didn't see much difference at all with the ATI chip.

I am glad to hear the 750 is that much of an improvement. The bleeding edge keeps getting bloodier all the time.

As for the question of Dell incorporating WiFi into their machines. This was announced yesterday on CNet News:
Link to News.com article
You can read into it what you want, but I bet Dell Handhelds are going to get some wireless attention.

I just don't see the comparison. My Ax versus my laptop? They are not really in competition with one another.
