Newusers with Pocket Pc
People who used pocket pc probably upgrader from Palm or they want that big screen and Microsoft Operating System.Well for newuser and upgraders from Palm would probably have a lot of problem such as installing programe,removing program and such. Well...for this article I hope I can help newbe and upgrader from confusion and headache and I will used the Dell Axim for the learning curve.
Tips
Three links.....Sht3-Mips-StrongArm.If you encounter this link when you want to download application such as games, go to Start-Setting-System-System Information=and looked at your processor type because the Sht3-Mips-StrongArm is a actually 3 types of different processor and if you have a new Pocket Pc you propbelly have the Intel Xscel type processor which is a new version or upgrade from Strong Arm.....so if you're processor is StrongArm/Intel Xscel choose the StrongArm link to download the program you want
. But ...lats say you have the Sht3 and Mips links but no StrongArm/ Intel Xscel links, that means you're PocketPc isn't compatible with that type of application (meaning you can't install it on you're Pocket Pc).
A lot of programs install automatically, you just have to follow the installation steps and then it would install it on you're pocketpc but a lot of old program needs you to install them manually such as old game like Bee,Ball2 and other for example you try to unzip it an try to install it but the fail didn't install or it did install,but you can't run them on you're pocket pc. So if you encounter this problem, Unzip the file - choose the setup icon(the application you just download)-extract it(you can find the action ''extract it'' on the upper Zip file), extract it to...lats say to My Documents-go to my documents-right click on the application you just extract-sent it to you're Pocket pc folder - find it at you pocketpc file explorer.
If you want to put you're mp3s collection on you're pocket pc...Select the mp3 you want - right click it - send it to you're pocket pc folder.You also have to do this type of installation with ebooks to Microsoft reader,pictures to you're albums such as Resco picture viewer,video's,themes and other things as well.
Removing program is easiy..just uninstall the programs at ''Removing Programs'' but if it said '' removing programs successful but files from a specific folder aren't deleted or whatever...you just have to go to file explorer-find the name of the application-tap the screen,hold the stylus for about a few second until the pop up box pop out, select delete.
You're Axim or other ppc would be faster if you're Program memory has a lot of space...so leave some program memory if you want you're Axim to be faster.
If you tap the (x) icon or close, it doesn't mean that the application is closed, it's only been minimized(You can only know what application is minimize by either Switchbar or the nifty Wisbar(which is a freeware you can download which will show little icons on the startbar which program are still running or minimize much like the Pc minimizer which shows you're minimize application on the toolbar)...so you have to closed it you're self at "memory" to recover more memory ,with switchbar or with third party application like Wisbar.
Tired of digging Memo,to do,Addres,word and others?...go to start-settings-menus-newmenus=and turn on the new menu and you can see a different( a new arrow appear) in the New bar low bellow you're screen.
If you go to Pocket Internet Explorer and see Avantgo and you don't know how to get more news and channel ...well this isn't a problem...you just have to go to
www.avantgo.com and subscribe to them(it's free) and then you can get more channel and news but you have to follow their instructions first.
Internet Explorer on the PC has that back and forward options where you can go back or forward to the website you want.For pocket internet explorer, if you look at the bottom of the screen you can see only the ''back '' icon(arrow) no forward options. There is a forward options. On the Internet Explorer go to View=select forward.
Want to add more application on 'Start'...well go to start-setting-menus=choose any application you want to appear on you're 'start' but you can only have 9 at a time
Backup is NOT like Palm where it's done automatically, you actually have to do it you're self....so what you do is go to Activesync-Tools-Backup=Do the full backup..If you have done a fullbackup, you can choose the halfbackup(which I like to call it) every time you sync you're Ppc but I reither recommend you backup it one's a weak because even if you do the halfbackup every times you sync, it takes a loooooong process.
If yo do a hard reset and want to restore you're data back....-connect you're Ppc to the Pc- then choose guest- go to tools-backup/restore=choose restore-select you're pocket pc folder named and a few seconds the restoration starts(restoration can only be done if you had backup you're pocket pc earlier so it is wise if you backup it ones of week or everyday but be warnd..backuping you're ppc would take a looooong time.But you can do the halfbackup which only backup the changes you made seens the last backup which would not take as long time as doing the fullbackup.

Want to know which data that you save such as notes,voice notes,Pocket word,themes,files,ext used to many memory...well go to Start-Find=Delete the previous find and let it be < ... > -then go to 'Type' and select ''larger then 64KB''
Want the best voice notes? Well for start you have to change you're default voice recording format because it's in 8/16bit Mono...Go to Start-Setting-Input=Option-choose the best recording format you want(maybe about 8 or 16 bit Stereo.. But I should warn you that the better sound quality the more memory it would consumed and the more battery it would used when played
Application That's Really Helps
Tired of to have to reset to recover more memory or have to go start-setting-system-memory=stop running program...well you have many ways and shortcuts such as Switch Bar for the Axim.Tap switch bar and choose 'exit all program' and all program would be exited.
Want to skin your upper bar(which is where the 'start',close,clock and other lays, you can download Wisbar.It has many skins to choose from and it has the same function as Switch Bar which is 'Exit all programe'.But the sideffect is that there is no shortcut for brightness and battery indicator...but you can download Batterwatch which would add a battery indicator shortcut at the bottom of you're screen(it's free).For brightness...I'm still searching....so you have to wait(sorry).
Want to arranged you're theme in thumbnails(little pictures that shows you you're theme(much more greater then 'Today' wich only shows you the name of the theme)...well you can download Themedream at
www.applain.com.The new version even has the ability to arranged animated themes.
Thememaster is also is a best way to arranged you're Theme and the bestest part of all it would only take about below 50K of memory while Themedream would take around 600K above. But low consumption of memory has it's price but I would not spoil it.
Tired of going and digging for application? Download Handyshortcut.Handyshortcut would placed shortcuts you want like Internet Explorer,Pocket Word,Activesync,Notes,ext in the Today screen.You can scerch it at google (type=Handyshortcut for pocket pc)and it's FREE!. Oooo....when you have install it on you're Ppc go to Start-Home-Today=Items-and choose Handyshortcut to used it
Some games like Ants,applications,ext needs Micromedia Flash Player if you want to run them...so go to Google or Microsoft and search it.Then..you just have to install it on you're Ppc and then wamoo! You can now used any application that need Flash Player.
