Ambicom CF Wireless Card

I've looked around the site to find a review for this card and couldn't find one. I know that many use the Linksys card or if they have the cash the Socket card, but I've found this one to work right in the middle. So here is my short review of the card.

Installation:
The card was a piece of cake to install. The drivers I received at the time were the most up to date. There is now an update that supports better power management at the expense of range. The software gives control of all aspects of the wireless connection.

Usage:
I've been very pleased with the card. Battery drain isn't too bad. I can use GSPlayer for shoutcast streams and get about 2.5 hours sometimes more before getting too low (30%). The range is less than a PC Card, but I have been impressed with it. My access point (the D-Link DI-614+) is upstairs and I am able to get signal throughout my house. It's nice having that Internet radio.

This card was a very worthwhile investment. Pricing for it varies; I picked mine off of Ebay for $40. I haven't had to call the company for support, but they keep up with the driver updates to add more features.

If I had any complaints is that it is not supported by the "stumbler" programs. Oh well. Other than that I would recommend this card to anyone who wants a card with better power management than the Linksys, but can't afford the Socket card.

Nice review! I will be looking soon to finally get a wifi card for my axim and setting up a wireless LAN soon, so thats good to know. I myself usually go with the highend to almost-highend-to-save-some-cash products, so this helps! THanks!

I've been using AmbiCom WL1100B wireless CF-card for just about a year now, using it both on my PPC's and laptop's and most say I'm very impressed.

Besides the size of it (they don't sell the "B" card anymore, and the "C" is a lot smaller), it's the best card I've ever used!

I also use the newer CF WiFi card and I love it myself. The lack of working with any of the stumblers I have come across is about the only thing missing.

Yeah, I picked the WL1100C-CF version. Works fabulously. Here is a picture of it.
