SanDisk was kind enough to send me a 512MB Extreme SD card a few weeks back to do some benchmarking and reviewing.
I'll have to tell you. After feeling like I've been punished for using the regular grade SD card of theirs, the 256MB flavor, I've been blessed to be able to use the 512MB Extreme flavor!!!
Immediately after backing up my 256MB card and restoring it to my 512MB Extreme card I was astonished. Copying about 230 megs of data from the 256MB card to my desktop using SanDisk's memory reader seemed a bit painful. However, copying it back to the Extreme card seemed like a mistake!! It flew back onto the card.
Installing applications onto the Extreme card was amazing. Normally, with the regular card, it'd take a bit to get data onto the card (when installing apps, through ActiveSync, it seemed pretty slow), but with the Extreme card, the application installation process seemed to be as smooth as butter.
I also tried this card in my Canon SD300 camera. A dream come true. The camera is able to take snaps almost as fast as I can push the shutter button. I can also breeze through the pictures I've already taken very nicely, I may add.
Conclusion:
I highly recommend this line of SD cards from SanDisk.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Axims!!!
Benchmarking information using Spb's
Spb Benchmark:
As you can see from the data above, the Extreme line crushes the standard line by a factor of 10x in writing a 1MB file (typical for installing applications). Reading a 1MB file didn't yield extraordinary results, but it's just reading, which is typically a faster process. Copying a 1MB file yielded amazing results for the Extreme, as well, as it bested the standard card by a factor of nearly 6x. Copying a 1MB file was close to the same on both cards.
Sandisk's Extreme SD cards are awesome!!!
