happy with x51v + tomtom+ pharos cf

After much research on this site and others, I broke down and bought the TomTom Navigator 6 and a Pharos CF card receiver. Simply put...I like it. No major problems. Everything installed as expected and runs smoothly.

I know I appreciated eveyones input and reviews. I am a lazy writer so this review is short, however feel free to ask questions...I will answer them the best I can.

Here is my setup:

-x51v
-AO12
-2gb SD card for maps (and enough room for mp3's)
-TomTom Nav 6 (amazon.com 137.00 with ship)
-Pharos CD Adapter II (amazon.com 50.00 with ship)
-USB/12 Volt Adapter

Addditional:

-Pro clip PDA holder with flexible arm (www.proclipusa.com)

-Panasonic Head Unit in 99 Wrangler with AUX input and double male 3.5mm headphone jack for mp3's and TomTom voice....(can be difficult to hear over large off road tires and music)

oh...btw FM tuners stink, I think I have tried them all (latest was Belkin TuneCast II) There is always static and/or electronic interference from GPS receiver. The direct line to the stereo is the a no-brainer option.

-PocketMusic-good mp3 player...works well in the backgound while tomtom is running (http://www.pocketmind.com/pocketmusic.htm)

-For Off Road Adventures- I use Back Country Navigator to track and review topographic maps. http://www.backcountrynavigator.com

Looks like a TJ with a home brew snorkel
FWIW I'm running iGuidance w/ The Gomadic power mount and antenna with no problems. Seems to holdup well in the Freightshaker (Freightliner), gonna get a mount for the Jeep so I just swap the PPC over and not mess with the trucks mount.

Offroadmedic- Thanks for the steer on the topo software.

Mike

Off road how do you go for glare, It doesn't look like you have a screen protector, do you have problems with visibility, I am also noting the reflection of your arm in the photo.

Good eye both of you!

Yes, Mike, she's a 99 Wrangler with home brew snorkel (and a top from ARB for cosmetics ). 3" Teraflex and 33's, open diffs, Warn xd900i, on board air with 5gal tank blah blah blah....i guess that's for another forum though. Here is an outside pic though. It's the one in front. (Our jeep site www.fullflexoffroad.com)

Pedah....Actually, I am glad you asked the glare question. It is pretty bad on sunny days. On a Jeep, the windshield is almost vertical and maybe a foot and a half or so from your face. The Axim isn't very far from the eye, so I guess that helps.

I guess I will ask a question then. Do the screen protectors help with that glare during the day?

Some screen protectors dull the surface (reducing glare) while others reflect mirror images. Go for a protector that advertises reducing glare.

Nice Jeep squad!!!
