Holux 236 with Tomtom 6

hello,

Does anyone here have experience connecting a HOluxSlim 236 to Tomtom? I had tried com 7 or 8 for progam port and com 7 and 8 for hardware port. none os these ports works.

When I pair my X51 with the 236, X51 shows a serial port from the Holux. Does any one know what that means? does it have anythign to do with connect to tomtom?

First off you seem to be trying to use the Windows GPS manager. Don't - not really worth the aggro! Make sure the settings are None/None/Off (not checked) - one for each of the tabs.

Right - now pair the device. Then create an incoming serial port - this will usually be COM7:.

In TomTom choose other BT GPS and select that COM port and off you should go. Use the GPS status window in TomTom to check if it's working - take everything outside into clear sky and see if the signal strength meters show firstly grey bars then change colour (?blue? - not sure about TT6). The change of colour indicates that a fix has been made. There should be a rotating small chequered circle on this screen this shows communication between TomTom and the GPS unit - but not neccessarily a fix.

TomTom will NOT show your position until a fix has been determined. This can take upto 30 mins for a new GPS / one that's been off for a while. In practice 5 mins can be common for this. After this fix times will vary but range from seconds to longer times if the unit has been moved a distance when off or not used for days.
