Loading Dell GPS Maps From SD Card

For some reason, my Dell GPS software does not pick up any maps that are installed on my PNY 1GB SD Card. I tried reinstalling the GPS software onto the SD Card but it still would not pick up maps that were installed on the same card. I have no problems with loading maps that are installed onto the internal memory of my X51v. Is it something that I am doing wrong ? Is there a way to change from where the Dell Navteq GPS software loads its maps from ? Please HELP !!! I'm going crazy trying to figure this out.

Is there another map on you main memory. I leaned that I had to delete all pre-existing maps on cards and in main memory before my Axim would discover new ones. Apparently, it can hadle only one set on the Axim at a time.

Thanks

Hi Freebitz
That seems to work. However, the maps only install onto the card if the dell gps software is on the card as well. If the gps software is on the axim, i get errors with copying linkinfo and mapdata files. Still I can run the software from the card, hopefully it wont be slow. Thanks a lot for your help.

Hmm... I just today loaded the navteq gps software that came with my mom's x51v (she doesn't use it) on my x5. I had it install on the sd card and also put the map on the sd card. It all seems to very easily install in one folder called "maps" in the dell gps folder on the sd card. In fact, I had put one on there then decided to remove it - i deleted all the files in the maps folder and reput a new map.

I see no problems running it from the card. I was watching my memory real close.

I had removed Pocket Map Navigator first - before installing the dell software. I'm hoping this software is better - I'm not all that happy with the PMN app.

I did have to reset my device before it would work tho.

Hi CatchClaw,
The maps load fine when the software and maps are installed in the same location. I installed both on my SD card and it works like a charm. I wanted to install the GPS software on the pda's internal memory cos I thought it be faster but the difference is response time is not even noticeable.

If the software managed to install itself properly on your pda, you should find the GPS icon in the programs listing(Start -> Programs). If its not there, it could be under another name.

I load the program and maps on my card and it makes it easier forme. I can carry different SD cards with other programs on them so I am not stuck with what is on the axim main memory. I use mine for inspection programs and mapping gps which can take up a ton of space. I figure 4 sd cards works fine for me. I have a carry case that has storage for the cards as well.
