Slow GPS startup

Greetings all. I just recently purchased an Axim x51v w/wired GPS.
So far I am loving my Axim!! BUT, I recenlty started having problems with the GPS. When I first started using it I would turn on my Axim, hook up the GPS, give it a destination and away I'd go. It would locate me immediatly and start navigating. Lately when I turn my Axim on, hook up the GPS, and then give it a destination, it doesn't do anything. Then like 5 minutes later (give or take a few minutes...doens't seem to be a set time) it will just wake up and away we go.

Any ideas what might be causing this? The first time it happened it was avery cloudy and overcast day...thought that might be the problem, but I had used it before under similar weather conditions (I live in Seattle, WA). Then I tried it again on a perfectly clear day...same result. So I am confused as to what might be going on. Anyone have any ideas?

I just had a similar problem with mine. It took an above average time to lock onto all the need sats. Not quite 5 mins but longer than normal. I don't have an explanation, just thought I'd share you are not alone...lol...I'm not too worried about it as, from what I've read, GPS cold start ups sometimes do take longer and can vary based on your position and the position of the sats.

Could I suggest that perhaps you have the GPS receiver inside your car ???

On some cars, the windscreen has a coating that reflects heat and also unfortunately signals such as GPS.

I had a similar issue with a GPS unit that was working well for months and then gave bad signals.... I though weather or atmos conditions until I discovered the actual problem.

Try moving your receiver to by a different window or even to the rear of the car ( most plug ins use telephone cable extensions).

I moved my receiver 6 inches to be by the side door window and not windscreen. Never had the problem before.

Also check on the type of GPS receiver. SrFi I needs a strong signal, SrFi II works well with most signal strengths, SrFi III is currently the best , working with weaker signals. The only way to upgrade is to buy new.

I suspect moving the receiver will do it however
