Question Help with selecting a good GPS receiver

Hi folks-

I'm in the market to upgrade my GPS receiver for use with my X51v. My current receiver is the GlobalSAT BT-308 which uses a SIRF-II chipset. The objective is to get one with a SIRF-III chipset for better acquisition and accuracy.

There are a few requirements for the new unit-

1. Bluetooth transmission
2. External antenna jack (standard MMCX type)
3. Internal battery
4. SIRF Star III chipset

Does anyone have a unit that fits these conditions? If so is your experience good? I found a few searching but would like an opinion or two from some soldiers in the field.

These words link to some of the units I found.

I second this post. Looking for a unit that meets these specs. Thanks all. New to the forums.

Cheers,

Rad Eddie

I have a wonderfull Globalsat BT338 unit that I feel meets all specs plus it is super small and batteries are easy to obtain ( same as Nokia).

Are you saying it has an external antenna connection? I didn't think it did or I would have already bought one. I have an antenna on top of my Jeep that's wired under the carpets/panels and want to keep its open sky view...

Whoops, thought is was an external socket, but its actually part of the charger cover.

Works well inside my Renault espace , even behing heat and GPS reflecting glass.

I decided to try out the Seidio RBT-2010. It supports all the requirements (including WAAS) and exceeded all the other receivers' specifications. I'll post back with how great/horrible it is when I try it. The units aren't available for shipping until 5-15. Thank you all for your input.

I use a BT-321. It's a Holox which I believe is re-branded in various incarnations, but basically fits the bill. Bit bigger than a match box, gets about 13 hours continuous use, external antenna socket (never tried it though, internal is very sensitive), SIRF Star III and internal battery. Paid 60 pounds on ebay.

The RBT-2010 finally arrived (backordered) and it's a great unit. It was easy to set up, tracking satellites for my Axim within minutes of extraction from its box. It's also an aesthetically pleasing device. The sensitivity is excellent, although I want to keep it under the passenger seat and therefore want to use the external antenna. The connector is different from my old BT-308 and finding a compatible one was not easy. I finally tracked one down at http://www.semsons.com/exanforholcf.html.

Hopefully this link will help other RBT-2010 owners who want an external antenna, although Seidio support (who helped me track it down) tells me it is so sensitive most people can get a lock indoors.

I tested their claim by turning it on from a cold start in the center of my house. In less than a minute it had a lock on 9 satellites, 6 of which were very high signal quality.
