x51 / X50 and Wired GPS
Hi, I'm having a problem configuring my AXIM(s) with a EverMore GPS receiver. A bit of history - I used this GPS unit successfully with a HP5450 however recently upgraded to the x51 running WM5. After installing TomTom 5.2 and purchasing a new GPS cable I tried to configure the Axim to talk to the GPS unit only to find that unlike the HP5450 I can only see COM3: - and guess what? It doesn't see the unit. After much messing around and searching the internet for a fix I decided ti try my Collegues AXIM X50 which is running Windows Mobile 2003. Once again I cannot get the AXIM to see the GPS unit - only giving me the option to talk to COM3, or serial cable on COM1: - neither work! I've contacted the seller of the GPS reciever and he asures me that it does work with the x50 (he hadn't tried the x51). Does anyone know if there is a fix or known problem with the AXIMS?

Welcome to Aximusers.com.
I don't know about your partictular receiver, but I am usering a Leadtek/TomTom wired receiver on an X50 with TomTom 5.2.
No problems at all.
I suspect that you need to change the GPS configuration settings. If you select Preferences and then Show GPS status, you have an option to configue.
The selections include TomTom wired ( silver receiver) and other NMEA receiver. Try selecting TomTom first. If the connection is good, you will see the circle in the top right corner spinning.
If this does not work, select the NMEA receiver, this should give you a number of other options such as COMM ports and Baud rate.
Keep the board rate at 4800, but you may need to play a little with the comm port settingalthough I think itis Serial cable on COM1. Just keep checking for the spinning circle. It the circle spins, the connection is made, you don't need to wait 10 mins to see if you get a satellite fix.

Hi Drifter -I'm familiar with the TOMTOM config settings. Thats part of the problem as with my HP5450 I had a more COM ports to play around with. I've tried configuring with the TOMTOM Wired reciever and it doesn't give me an option to select a COMM port - and subsequently doesn't work. I've gone through every combination of speeds using the generic NMEA receiver on the 1 comm port available to me - COMM3: and no success. I think thats the problem - I'm only seeing 1 COM port.

On my X50v, which I also use for GPS, when I look at the possibilities for NMEA, I have
COM3
Native IR
BT UART on COM5
Bluetooth Serial Port on COM7
Bluetooth Serial Port on COM9
USB Cable
Serial Cable on COM1
You should be seeing all of these. If not, I think the best bet is to do a hard reset and reload TT5.2 ( Hard reset can be by holding power and pressing reset at the same time, or removing the main battery for approx 2 hours).
Does BT and WiFi work on your X50 ? x51 ?
I'm puzzled why you cannt see more comm ports

I can see the same ports as you, and have now tried every combination on each port with no success. I can only conclude that it won't work with the GPS receiver I have, which is strange as it works fine with the HP5450 and the vendor has told me that it should work with the Axim.

I have exactly the same problem.
Dell X51v ROM A04, Haicom HI-701 (wired GPS), WM5, TomTom 5.210.
All hints and tips by TomTom done, but no results.
Haicom GPS testapplication says connections work fine, COM1 is used, 8 or more satelites seen.
In TT Navigator 5.210 I can select at "other wired NMEA GPS":
- Native IR
- COM3
- BT UART on COM5
- Se???a?? ?a??d?? st??
The last one should be Serial Cable on COM1:
Old driver 3.07 doesn't work on WM5.
I'm desperate. Who can help???

I have exactly the same problem. Have you found a solution yet??
If you have, I would be really grateful for the answer.
Cheers

x50v + WM 5 + Tom Tom 5.21 + wired GPS working solution is here
I had the exact same problem like others and just got mine working.
The problem is due to the corrupted serial driver name in the registry, that is why you see "Se???a?? ?a??d?? st?? COM1: " in Tom Tom GPS menu.
1. Use a registry editor, e.g. PHM Registry Editor v0.70
http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities...ryeditor.shtml
2. Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\Serial
3. You will see the value name "FriendlyName" has some Russian characters for the value data
4. Change that to Serial Cable on COM1:
5. Make sure you exit registry editor from Tools -> Exit, that will save the changes properly.
6. Now go to Tom Tom and your wired GPS should be working. You may need to do a soft reset if Tom Tom is still not picking up your wired GPS.

You Are A God
Hi
I have had my X51v for a month now and have tried everything.
This fix is great i am jumping for joy. only thing was i couldn't hack the registry with the program specified kept getting an access is denied error. I downloaded resco explorer 2.50 its only a 14 day trial but thats long enough to hack the registry and fix all the problems
Thankyou so much

Hello,
i am new to pda's and i had a axim x51v bought for me for christmas and i found that i couldn't use the tom tom 5 with it. The problem being with the serial driver in the registry as you pointed out, so i followed your advise and downloaded the regedit and loaded it and changed the settings and the receiver now works well with my pda.
thanks you for your help
