x51 / X50 and Wired GPS

I have done all the changes you posted to have Serial Port on COM1, but TT% some times recognises the GPS and some times does not. I can not understand why this is happening.

1. Use a registry editor, e.g. PHM Registry Editor v0.70

3. You will see the value name "FriendlyName" has some Russian characters for the value data

4. Change that to Serial Cable on COM1:

6. Now go to Tom Tom and your wired GPS should be working. You may need to do a soft reset if Tom Tom is still not picking up your wired GPS.

Hi.
I've just tried downloading and installing "PHM Registry Editor" It installes onto my PC but that's it. How do I manually install it on to my Axim X51v?

I just found this fix for the problem. Excellent info, thanks.

To answer Warren's question, just copy the CAB file for the PHM Registry Editor onto your memory card in your Axim. Then navigate to the CAB file in the file explorer and click on it to install the application. It worked fine on my Axim X51v despite a warning than it might not because it was written for an earlier version of Windows Mobile. Run the registry editor from the Programs menu.

Note that although you will see the corrected name of the COM1 port in TomTom immediately after making the change, TomTom does not appear to detect the GPS until you shut down your Axim and reboot it. It is now working fine for me using my Magellan Meridan connected via a cable.
