Has anyone experienced an error message downloading Yamece that says it isn't a valid windows 32 application?

Yeah, that is typical if you try to run a PPC app on windows (by double clicking the icon). What you need to do is just copy the EXE right on to the Axim and run it on there. Then, you should be good to go.
