I've been playing around with Windows CE devices since my sophomore year in High school (I'm a JR in college now). At first it was just a cool device to have around and play with (LG Phenom). Then I upgraded to allow me to procrastinate but still play mostly (NEC Mobilepro and Jornada 520).
Then came the Dell Axim X5...WOW. I bought it from a guy on campus for $160 including truemobile wireless card, original dell case, and deluxe dell leather case. I upgraded to Pocket PC 2003 as soon as I found out that the original purchase date qualified it for a FREE upgrade! Before the upgrade the Axim redefined the way I managed my time by simply using the task function and calendar function in conjunction with the wireless internet (something my Jornada 520 lacked).
NOW...Let me say that Pocket PC 2003 does more than I dreamed. I check my yahoo mail accounts as well as my school mail before and in between classes (Pocket PC 2002's internet explorer did not allow full use of yahoo). I hop on AOL and check in with old High school friends while I relax and enjoy the wireless network on campus. By using the Axim I stay on campus longer and am more productive in those "dead" spots between classes. It has truely redefined my definition of electronic communication by putting email and IMing right in the palm of my hand.
Before the Axim, Windows CE devices and Pocket PC's were expensive toys to me. The axim on the other hand, now that's a tool I can use in my school, social, and working life. No other object or device has bridged the gap for me like the Axim has.
I was hesitant when I considered purchasing the unit, but that was before I found out what it could do for me. Now I would gladly pay 2 times the amount I originally paid for it (and that's alot for a college student on a tight budget).
