I was wondering if any of you have come across a CF IR extender that works with PDAwin's TV remote controler. I havnt used the Total Remote by Griffin technology becasue i heard that it doesnt work well with the AXIM. If someone has used it, please post on your experiances with it. Using the standard IR on the Dell is sort of limited. If the Total remote gives at least a 15 foot distance i'll get it.
Thanks alot guys,

So the IR, as-is, is pretty weak on the AXIM?

Yeah, I think that it is a weak IR signal. I tested that TV remote app on it, and it worked great! (if you were 3 ft from the TV., which defeats the purpose of "remote" control).
Anyway, just my $0.02

Actually, there is a CF adapter to increase the range, by about 60ft. Check Here It works the the iPAQ pocket pc, but thats all it says. I don't see why it wouldn't work with other PocketPc's though, or maybe they just haven't tested it on any other PPC yet? Who knows...
Hope this helps.

EDIT: Now that I read the FAQ about it, here is what I found:
Q: Will PDA-ir work with my Dell Axim?
A: No. This is a software issue. PDAwin is working on this issue currently.
So, I guess the answer is no, there is no IR range booster for the Axim currently...Sorry

Actually i have contacted them and they said that it will not work with AXIM's or any other pocket pc but the IPAQ. Sad to say, but i have reviewed all the options i have found before you posted this. Sort of sucks that the range is so poor with the IR, but it does work for me if im within 5 feet. Oh well, i guess i have to wait.

Yep. How cool would that be that you could be on the other side of room and control the TV or stereo with the CF card for it, and without looking for the remote..(which usually gets stuck down in the couch cousions here) I haven't had too much trouble with the iPAQ's infrared, mine gets about 10ft, I guess thats one thing I will miss when I get an Axim.
I guess the Axim's are just out of luck for now, until that get it working...which hopefully wont be too long from now

Back to what i was asking, i was wondering if anyone here has actually ordered the Griffin Technologies Total Remote with the Headphone signal booster and tried it on the Axim? If so could you post your review or your thoughts on how well it works (or doesnt).
Thanks Alot,

Sorry, but the Griffin Total Remote Control is not compatible with the Axim.
I bought it because according to their site, that the Axim (was not available at that time) was compitable; they based that assumption on the specifications of the Axim.
Well they yank the Axim from their compatiblity list after finding out that the IR boost was only up to 6 ft.
Needless to say, don't buy it ...but Griffin is working on the issue.
Keep checking their site.

Well here is the Reqs for the Griffin Technology,
System Requirements:
Pocket PC:
- Pocket PC device running Pocket PC 2000 or later
- StrongARM or XScale processor (not compatible with MIPS, SH3 or others)
- 1.05MB of storage space on the Pocket PC
So right now you are proubally thinking, ok well then where do I buy it? Well here at the very bottom in smaller print... <_<
Total Remote is NOT currently compatible with Dell Axim, Casio E200, or with PalmOS devices like Palm Pilot, Handspring, Sony Clie, etc.
DARN! >_< Well I believe that we will have to wait for the Axim to have a Total Remote system...
Hehe, how do you like the use of my smilies?!
