Have followed all directions. I've been told to use a different "Stack," that the one that came with MS5 is flawed. How? Where?

Axim Syncs to PC via cradle & cable perfectly.

WithOUT the cable, and with BT, NOW, at least my Inspiron9200 PC and AximX51v recognize each other. The little Kensington Dongle is flashing, the name of my Axim is displayed on the little ActiveSync window, the name of my PC has appeared on my Axim screen as a new partner,
BUT I get a little message on my PC screen that the connection has failed because my Device (the Axim) has refused the connection. Over and over and over again.
What might be going on here? I looked on my McAffee Firewall and ActiveSync is listed as an allowed application. Should Kensington, Widcomm or whatever be listed there also? If so, how to get 'em there? I think we are making progress, but the goal post is being moved.AAArg.
I sense that one element is missing here, Axim contacts PC, PC contacts Axim, but no hookup. Can view the promised land but can't get in.

Did you have to authenticate / pair your Axim and the BT dongle? Could be an issue there, and then it could take you off the beaten path.

My Axim syncs over BT but I had to install software that came with the USB BT adapter. Although Windows has its own BT software there was nothing I could do to make it work. I didn't want to install the additional software because I find it intrusive; it adds Outlook plugins, tons of system services, startup entries etc. The software that came with two different BT adapters I've used is called IVT Bluesoleil.

It requres a combination of Bluesoleil configuration, desktop Activesync configuration, Axim BT configuration, and Axim Activesync configuration. In Activesync on both desktop and the Axim you have to set it to look to a BT port that's already been configured on each respective device.

Axim syncs via BT flawlessly at work (A12 + AS 4.2). Unfortunately I can't use it because when the BT dongle and drivers are installed, my network connection goes down. At least this is not an Axim problem. Alas!

There are four applications and six ports that will require firewall permissions. The four applications are WCECOMM.EXE, WCESMgr.EXE, RAPIMgr.EXE, and CEAPPMgr.EXE. These need to have exceptions. The six ports are 990, 999, 5678, 5721, and 26675 (Inbound TCP), plus 5679 (Outbound UDP). These need to be opened for ActiveSync traffic.

Also, you need to find out which COM port your PC's Bluetooth adapter is using, and then set that in ActiveSync's Connection Settings (File\Connection Settings).

If you are running Norton AntiVirus, check to see if it has an applet called Internet Worm Protection. If so, this may have to be disabled as it sees ActiveSync as a threatening script. This only applies to certain versions of Norton A/V.

Before you can run a Bluetooth ActiveSync, you must have completed at least one successful tethered ActiveSync.

These are the most common things that I have found while providing user support for Windows Mobile 5 and ActiveSync 4.1/4.2 installed on a major hardware platform. I hope this helps. Good luck!
