Bluetooth problem with ActiveSync
Hi,
I just got an Axim X51 and I'm having problems connecting it to my laptop (a Dell XPS with XP Media Ctr). I've been through Mahstah's guide for setting it up, and it got me to a certain point and now I'm stuck.
I've got the devices paired, ActiveSync states "Allow connections to one of the following: COM8" which is the port I set up when pairing the devices. As for adding COM8 to the bluetooth locations, I'm not entirely certain I did this correctly. The XPS does not use the Windows bluetooth support, but rather the Toshiba stack (the only info I can find on configuring this is in German).
In the course of my own troubleshooting, I configured my firewall per the Microsoft support page for ActiveSync, completely rebooted my laptop and hard reset the X51. I'm still stuck.
When I try to connect from the laptop, it searches and says, "Your device was not detected" (all the obvious is ok... BT is turned on and device is able to be found, etc).
I cannot connect from the X51. When I go to ActiveSync and tap connect via BT I get the message, "Cannot find an existing partnership with a PC that supports ActiveSync. Would you like to set up a partnership now?" When I select YES, it shows my laptop under devices. When I chose to edit this, or deleted it entirely and set it up again from scratch, the only option i get under, "Select services to use from this device" is "Serial Port". ActiveSync is not an available option.
Additionally, the tutorial said that no steps would need to be taken to set up COM ports on the X51. For me this is not the case, they need to be setup. I tried configuring these in different ways also to no avail.
I'd really appreciate any help I could get on getting this going. Thanks!

Greetings kalei-
Is it possible to uninstall the Toshiba specific Bluetooth software and use the MS built-in BT software while retaining the driver files or using MS drivers? Software incompatibility is not inconceivable.

Same trouble
I also have issues with the Activesync and I get the blue screen of death on my desktop. I've tried the beta version of Activesync but still get the bluescreen. Wish I could help. I'm here too to get help.

Manage to activesync via Bluetooth
Hi all,
I just got my Dell Axim V51. Try to activesync via Bluetooth. Initially, got the same problem, i.e., my Dell Axim kept complaining about "Cannot find an existing partnership with a PC that supports ActiveSync ..."
I am using Microsoft XP BT drivers. After doing an internet search, I am lead to this excellent forum and had follow Mahstah tip. After some tries, I managed to get my Dell Axim V51 to activesync via BT.
Here briefly what I did ...
i) Pair my Axim with my PC.
ii) On my PC, under control panel, bluetooth services, I add a com port for incoming connection. On my PC, the com port allocated is 15.
iii) On my PC, under MS Activesync program, under connection setting - allow connection to one of the following, I choose Com 15.
iv) On my Axim, under BT setting, on the Devices tab, when I tab on my PC partnership, initially, I did not have Activesync as the offered services. Instead, I got serial. I notice that if I try to activesync via BT, I would keep getting the above mentioned message of not able to find existing partnership ... After re-reading Mahstah tip/advice, I delete the existing partnership and re-pair my Axim with my PC. Volia! I saw Activesync as the services available. After that, activesync via BT work great without problem.
Note that, on my Axim, under BT setting, I did not to set the com port setting to this to work.
Hope this help. Good luck.

I may be missing something here, but it used to be that in order to get BT syncing to work, the first sync needed to via USB to an X50/X51. This got the unit recognised and once done so, you could switch to Bluetooth for following connections....
Have you done this or is the first attempt to connect via BT???

I wanted to post a reply to help out those with Dell laptops. I got a new X51v yesterday and spent almost 5 hours trying to sync it to my Inspiron laptop with no success. I know my way around a computer pretty well but still couldnt figure out what was wrong. What I finally came to find is that the Toshiba stack is the problem. Go to add and remove programs and get rid of it. Once I did that, I just followed the directions in active sync and had it up and running in less than a minute. Using the MS bluetooth utility works great. Hopefully this info helps someone out...
