Mobile 5 and Bluetooth

Okay, I am rather computer ignorant. I just upgraded my Axim X50v pocket pc2003 to windows mobile 5. I also use a Dell bluetooth GPS. It worked fine with the pc2003. After upgrading, I can't get my Axim to connect to the GPS. I can see the GPS in the partnership window, but when I click on it, nothing happens. I don't know how to configure the com ports or if I even need to. If anbody can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm in the same boat. After selecting new partnership I seethe BT GPS witha question mark icon next to it. When I select it and enter the passkey I get a partnership settings screen which asks me to select services to use from this device. The only option is "serial port" which I select.

After clicking finish, I am taken to the bluetooth screen which now shows .BT GPS again with a question mark icon next to it.

My GPS has 2 LEDS, one of which is supposed to flash blue every second if it is correctly paired, or once every 3 secs if there is a failure in connecting. After going through all the above, the LED is flashing every 3s. Also TomTom shows no GPS device.

Please see the guide I wrote for WM5 BT. I realize you are trying to connect to GPS and not a laptop, but you will get a feel for pairing devices there. Feel free to ask questions.

There is no problem Pairing devices, but since the actual BT GPRS reciever doesnt have a interfave like a PC/laptop, the basic question remains Unanswered.
We can pair the devices no problem, how on earth do you actually connect to the reciever, if there is no "connect to device" function.

Sup3rc0w,

Here is a secret for you. Don't tell anyone.

1. Tap and hold on the GPS receiver shortcut icon.
2. Select Connect.

If double-arrow appear on the shortcut icon, your connection (to the GPS device) is successfuul.

My goodness! Thank you for sharing your secret. I assumed you've paired your devices. In fact "no such option" is the root of the problem.

You also confirmed that in your other posting. Based on your description in your other <a href="http://www.aximusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6368 >post</a>, you have only EDIT & DELETE options.

That means YOU HAVE NOT PAIRED YOUR DEVICES.

In the above post, you mentioned
"There is no problem Pairing devices, but since the actual BT GPRS reciever doesnt have a interfave like a PC/laptop, the basic question remains Unanswered.

Well, YOU'VE NOT PAIRED YOUR DEVICES ... indicated by the EDIT/DELETE options.
Usually, you also get a question mark (?) by your device icon.

YOU WILL NOT GET THE connect OPTION WHEN YOUR DEVICES ARE NOT PAIRED.

Because you have not established a partnership, the Axim is telling you that your available options are:
1. EDIT, or
2. DELETE

You've to start over to establish a partnership.

In BT Manager, use these default values:
[Start/Settings/Connections/Bluetooth]
1. Outgoing Port: COM7 (Default)
2. Incoming Port: COM8 (Default)
3. Most devices use "0000" for passkey.
4. Serial port box: Check

This is very important. I repeat, in BT Manager, use the default values:
1. Outgoing Port: COM7 (Default)
2. Incoming Port: COM8 (Default)
3. Most devices use "0000" for passkey.
4. Serial port box: Check

Follow Mahstah example/tutorial mentioned above & you should pair your BT devices.

Once you established a partnership, check your other post. Your GPS settings are wrong. We'll fix that over there.

After you paired your devices, my secret "CONNECT" will appear.

Once the partnership has been established, run the GPS utility software (TomTom) ... this is the easiest part.

Unhappy

I have the same issue. I have a WM2003 which is connecting fine to my BTGPS on comm5 (BTOBserial).
My WM5 is not connecting.
I assumed I was pairing okay since I find the GPS and enter the passkey. The options for BT GPS in the Bluetooth Manager are only Edit, Delete and (greyed out) Set as Hands Free; no CONNECT.
My comm ports are listed in my mapping prog as COMM5:BTUART on COM5, COM7:Active Device and COM7:Bluetooth Serial Port (why 2? is this the prob?).
I'm hoping it's purely a matter of coordinating the correct settings but the "Outgoing COMM7" and "Incoming COMM8" don't seem to help.

Talking

I've just managed to fix my BT GPS issue.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic?t=28085.
In GPS settings I set "Program Port" to None and unchecked "Manage GPS automatically". GPS suddenly connected with no need to do a new pairing or anything else. Still does not have "Connect" in Bluetooth manager.
Hopefully this whole BT/COMM/GPS issue with WM5 can be resolved since it's entirely unsatisfactory.
