X3i Bluetooth enabled? - Page 2

I rang Dell's Customer Support and queried them about the lack of Bluetooth. They were adamant that when I was ordering on the website I should have selected the option for Bluetooth and WLAN when customising my order. Of course I can't remember if this option was even available back in Dec 03 when I bought the Axim. Guess I will have to stick with it - do any mobiles work on WLAN?!!

AX3i does not have integrated BT, it was in the design specs early on but Dell decided to drop the hardware for this device. The only way for a AX3i to use BT is to buy a BT card OR you'll need to purchase the AX30 which Dell released just recently which has both BT and WLAN integration. I talked to DELL about it and they said that it was in the plans but the hardware integration was dropped from the device last minute...

If you absolutely want Bluetooth, you'll have to get the new Axim X30. It came out earlier this month, I think. (Why is Bluetooth still so darn popular??) Dell is also planning to release the X7 (a Blackberry/PDA device) some time next month. The next step up for the X5 is the X50 and it'll follow its predecessor with the dual slot capabilities. (Hmmm ... I sound like a sales rep, don't I? Just attended a Dell technology roadmap show recently ... all this stuff is still in my head. Heh!)

the4poles, I've got the X3i and it works fine on our WLAN. It didn't used to when we were using Movian but now that we've switched to MAC address authentication, I haven't had any problems with it.

The 3i is setup for bluetooth connection. If you can finf the software to enable it, It will work fine. The same 3i sold in the US is sold in EU. The difference Dell did think that Bluetooth will not be a big deal in the US. That the reason the software was not pre installed.

A few X3i units did have BT built in, but they were not sold in the US. You can read some background information on this at Pocket PC Thoughts.
