Does anyone know if its possible to hack the IR on the X5, my warrenty is almost up so i figure might as well do it now. All i want is consumer grade IR. I dont care if i cant connect to other devices! LOL

I have never read anything or anyone modding the X5 or any other PPC for that matter to up to CIR. Nothing too exciting for folks I assume

have you considered simply getting an IR extender CF card instead?
I considered getting one myself but then I realized that with a bit of careful aiming I can get 8 or more feet out of the standard X5 IR and frankly don't have any great need to control devices at extreme long range (who watches the tv from 30 feet away? - sure it would be good for pranking, but not home use unless you have a really big home)

Well i really didnt want to get the cf extender, PDA-IR has a link that i posted in a previous topic, but my goal was to replace the IR inside the axim so i can use my wireless card at the same time. I dont like having to switch. I am extreamly lazy and i like the least hassle that i can get. SO if anyone has any ideas, please post them.

First off, I think modding a PDA (while original) is insane. Secondly, what would you do with a more powerful IR beam? Are you watching TV and surfing the net? It just seems like overkill.

It is overkill but it sounds like a fun project. Also, alot of the devices are just out of range for my axim and i like everything integrated. If i had the money i would bust out for a HP that has bluetooth wifi and consumer ir, but i dont, so i must resort to modding..... :shifty:

AFAIK, there is no HP that has BT, WiFi and CIR all in one. 22xx has BT and CIR, 41xx incorporates WiFI but lacks CIR.

Indisputably HP (and/or Compaq, take your pick) has been doing the PDA thing for a while longer than Dell. It's gotten to the point where HP seems to be releasing a newer, better PDA every other month. This is actually rivaling the cell phone market with technology advance rate. I think everyone here (on the Axim train) made a good choice. While the HPs certainly have a longer history, and a broader accessory base, they don't have the Dell's good looks, and high out-of-the-box functionality.
Yes, this was not related to the CIR topic. So what?

LMAO, TFF.
Let us know how your little project goes, it would be nice if dell used better components to start with, but hey how else you gonna drive down the price??
