But we already know that Odyssey works - Coulomberic said so in an earlier post - "As I said, Odyssey works, but it is hit and miss".
So I reckon that this is the decider. The security wouldn't sort of work and then stop - it would either allow the connection right off or it would refuse the connection completely. The hanging which Coulomberic describes could just be the websites, or a poor wireless connection.
I think I may have mis-stated my answer in my original post. If you stick the Axim on its cradle it will use the USB connection to the laptop & router, not wireless itself. I believe that this is why "wireless" appears to work on the cradle - it's not an improved Axim wireless connection, it's a hard-wired connection which is giving net access.
    Comments?

    Yes your right.

The AX doesn't care how the host computer is getting it's access when it's docked. All it knows is that it's connected to the internet via a usb connection to a computer. I still say it's a quirk in the security of the router. He says the AX works fine with the security turned off.

Wow, we must be in the same time zone or you're up late. Or very early? 18:51 over here.

I think you & I are on the same page but our wording is different. The router and laptop are talking fine. The Axim is talking to the laptop fine. The Axim docked is getting its web access via USB (*not* wireless) through the laptop's wireless connection to the router.

Therefore taking the Axim off its cradle forces it to rely on its own internal wireless, which isn't configured properly - for reasons which escape all of us...

But bottom line - Odyssey appears to make the Axim connect direct to the router, if I've understood Coulomberic's explanations. It just doesn't work reliably. But it's an all-or-nothing - if the security were preventing connection it wouldn't connect *at all*, it wouldn't just be intermittent or slow. Therefore the problem *must* be in the Axim, probably in the ROM we're using. Which one have you installed? Mine is (I think - it's been a long time) WM6 A06.1 Pure - installation ROM image is called DiAd_K_AximX51v_WM6_A06ENprivP.nb0.

    The time now is 13:27

LOL i'm in the US remember. Your in the UK. Anyway, yes we're on the same page about everything but Odyssey. Co and I are using the same ROM(Lenny's 11). I have never even opened Odyssey on my AX. I use the DELL WLAN utility to connect directly to my router. My guess is that the DELL Wlan utility security protocol won't mesh with his router and Odyssey will but not like it really should. Hence, his intermittant connection with Odyssey. I've NEVER used Odyssey, but I guess i'll check it out to see if i can diagnoss his problem that way. Have you ever tried to access your router without using Odyssey?

Yes, last night and the night before. I deleted all settings, soft reset, got the prompt, filled in the settings, the Axim could see the router, but just sat for 15 minutes saying "connecting". I didn't try Odyssey again last night, but that way has been working for months since I installed 6.1.

    Lenny's 11 ROM

Well, i tried Odyssey. It makes no difference wether i have it enabled or disabled. When i turn wifi on my AX connects to my router without Odyssey within about 10 seconds. What type of router are you using and what security protocol? I know we're getting off track here but we're trying to figure out why he can't connect.

    WiFi Issue

Well boys I have another escap route before I buy another router. I have a bluetooth laptop running most of the time, so I figure I can piggy back internet off of it, right?

So, I have paired my Ax with the laptop.

    Both see each other fine.

How do I get to connect to the internet with this set-up?

    Thanks

    Uhhhhhhhhhh

LOL. I think your just here to cause trouble. No really, it should be possible to do this since you can tether your AX to a cell phone and access the internet. Now this is just an assumption because i've never done it, but i would assume that you need to connect to your laptop and setup an outgoing and incoming port on your AX. I don't have my AX with me(i'm at work tonight), so i'm trying to figure this out on my phone.
    Tap START.
    Tap SETTINGS
    Tap CONNECTIONS TAB
    Tap CONNECTIONS
    Tap MANAGE EXISTING CONNECTIONS
    TAP NEW
SELECT BLUETOOTH UNDER "SELECT A MODEM:"
    TAP NEXT
TAP ADD NEW DEVICE(This should connect you to your laptop)
This is where you'll have to figure the rest out on your own.
    Good luck.

    ...Then
Immediately where you left off, the Ax Bluetooth modem settings asks for a bloody phone number. I tried putting 000-000-0000. You can't fool it so easily.
This is no dial-up, it is a wireless network FFS!. I have tried fooling with this for a while before I settle on asking the gurus again.

    bluetooth

Try a straight up bluetooth connection with an outgoing and incoming com port.
Or you could try a VPN thru your laptop.(I'm grabbing at straws here incase you didn't notice LOL)
