Does "tried everything" include Odyssey? As I said, my wifi alone is useless - it's Odyssey which takes all the config settings which allows my Axim to connect to my router, and I use WPA/PSK/TKIP. Start wifi, start Odyssey, finally start browser.

I'm at a loss!
I can't understand why if you turn your security off it works, and won't work if you set it up. That takes odyssey out of the picture in my opinion. I don't even use odyssey on my AX. Way back when there was a thread here on how to take odyssey off your AX if it was causeing problems. Maybe you should try MAC filtering. You'd have to input the MAC address from each device you access your router with but that might work. What router are you using anyway? Have you upgraded your firmware? Keep us posted.

WiFi issue
Sooooooo...
After another half day playing around with the router and Axim settings, only Odyssey client seems to work, but only partially.
WPA-PSK-TKIP did not work and I actually started having issues with my laptops, so back to WEP-64 bits.
As I said, Odyssey works, but it is hit and miss. It works fine, just long enough to google something and get some links, then you choose a link and it will either be very slow or just get stuck on Opening.... and still it works fine when the Axim is docked. Off the dock, trouble starts.
ideas?
thanks

I am new at this. Can someone tell me how to start a new thread.
I am not able to connect my WiFi. I have not been successful anywhere yet but have just started trying hard with a new router in my house. Any suggestions how to start (I did read the manual but don't understand all the details enough to get it done).
Thanks

Welcome to the site Hamilton, to post a new thread, go to the appropriate forum for your topic, like 802.11 (Wifi). At the top left of the page there's a button that says new thread, also on the right at theres a dropdown that says forum tools, where you can also select post a new thread

WiFi Issue - Need help with Axim settings
My router is a Siemens Gigaset SE567.
OK, how do I ensure my router is on channel 6 or 11? I just set it to 11 an hour ago and in the mean time it has drifted to channel 2. So I have forced it back to 11 and disabled auto-scan on startup (on the router that is). I will see if it stays on 11.
When I configure my WEP setting on the Axim, do I check ''This is a hidden network'' ? and why?
In Network management, do I select ''My Work Network'' or ''My ISP''? and why?
When I go to set-up my modem, all I see is phone numbers, area codes and other dial-up-related stuff, nothing that sounds like a username & password like you would expect.
Do I select ''Use IEEE 802.1x network access control''? and why?
Why do I punch my network key and 2 seconds later 3 extra digit show up?
This is so confusing. I could get a laptop to connect to my router with my eyes shut, and this tiny little thing has so many different menus where you can get lost...
I tried WPA-PSK-TKIP, with/without Odyssey, WEP-64 with/without Odyssey, no luck.
If that can help, I just pinged google and I get ''Please check the destinated IP address''. I have an IP address showing, connection is full bars.
If you see what I might have done wrong, please help.
Thanks

Firstly Eric, what ROM version are you running on the Axim at the moment?

The channel shouldn't matter, as long as the router is broadcasting 802.11b, but b/g should be fine.

This is meant to help protect your network from people piggybacking on it, I usually have it selected by default when trying to connect to a WEP encrypted network.

You shouldn't be setting up a modem at all as you are connecting to a wifi router that is already connected to the internet in some way, the Axim doesn't have to dial up again.

Not with WEP, but WPA-TSK should apply that by default!

This is just a way of hiding the Key and happens by default, if you are using a 10 digit key. best thing to do with this is use a simple numeric key so that you are not confused on entry.

Your whole WLAN set up should be done from the WLAN Utility on the axim. Don't worry about the connections for "connections" and especially "Odyssey". What i would suggest at this point is deleting any settings in "connections" that you have configured, tap and hold on the name for the setting you have configured and select delete.
Once you've done that open the WLAN utility, but don't turn WIFI on yet. Hit the settings button, and you get the Configure Network Adapters screen. Select dell axim x51v Wlan wireless adapter, a screen should pop up select, use server assogned ip address and click ok. Turn off WLAN and turn back on, go back to settings and make sure the dropdown menu at the top My network card connects to, says the internet.
tap OK.
Now turn on wireless lan. and tap on the site tab, you should see your router here. Whether it connects here or not is not important. as long as you can see it for now, go back to the main tab, and then hit settings, Here now you should see any settings or the name of your router that you've previously set up. Tap and hold on the name and delete the settings. Click OK and it should take and you should get back to the main screen. Turn ooff WLAN and soft reset the ax. After the soft reset, restart WLAN and you should get the found new network prompt, just fill in the WEP key and tell it it connects to the internet, and let it connect! HTH

WiFi Issue
Pedah,
I have followed your steps religiously, deleted my settings and re-created my connection settings. Still the same issue.
My Axim is connected with the router but they don't seem to understand each other.
Yestersay only, I have flashed my ROM twice. I went from Lenny's L11 to the Football family, first with A08, no luck and now I am running the previous Football release, A07. I am considering going back to Lenny L11 and just changing the welcome screen.
You would think each time I have flashed the ROM I would have had a chance at connecting right, but no. I am starting to blame my router, communicating in a WEP language that differs slightly to that of my Axim.
Thanks for your help,
Eric

it's your router
I'm starting to think it's your router too. If your using Lenny's 11 ROM (the one i'm also using) you should be able to connect no problem. I suggest you try to update my router firmware and see if that helps.

WiFi issue
What is weird though, Nintendo DS Lite, Wii, 2 different brand laptops connect to it flawlessly. Oh well... I will do some research on the firmware and post my luck level.
Anyway, the level of help I got so far is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
