10/100 Ethernet PC Card connected via compact flash to PC Card Adapter.

I am experimenting by trying to log into a PC Card Ethernet card connected to my Axiim X51 via a compact flash to PC Card adapter. It is for when I am in the office or elsewhere and cannot get a wireless connection, but do have full broadband. I bought one of each off of ebay but the PC card doesn't fire up at all and is not recognized by either my Ax51 or my desktop (the adapter is recognized - albeit "unrecognized device" by my Ax51).

Before buying another PC Card Ethernet card, any thoughts on whether this set up might work?
